Must be injured. He was worried about an injury during that flotrack thing where he was planning to attack sub-13 this summer. Since he hasn't raced I guess the injury came back to bite him.

Best to get it out of the way now since this year is meaningless.

Sure it is not meaningless to his sponsors who expect him to out there racing.
And what is going on with his citizenship? Others have started this process after him and have been approved already
Lots about hom is shady

His age is shady, hell he was 19 as a HS soph. The Kiprop thing spooked him. But now that the E. Africans have been given the greenlight to cheat year round, he may be able to do that also, even with American citizenship. Hell, Lagat was allowed to cheat after he moved to the US. It's all political.
Are you suggesting he should be racing while injured? If he's injured, his sponsors have an investment in him. They don't want their investment damaged by racing on an injury. I doubt if any sponsor would want that. Nick Willis is not racing this year. Ben Blankenship not really racing this year. I think he only ran Pre. Without a championship, sponsors don't have that big media platform to showcase their product.
Nick Willis has been racing this year

Do you have access to proof that he is 19?

Or that he dopes?
Has to be injury, he didn’t look right at Pre, and no results since. Championship year or not, if you can run 3:49, and you think you might be able to run sub 13, you go for it unless you are injuried

He was 17 as a high school sophomore and actually looks his age, which right now is 24. Your argument has no actual substance, it’s all over the place.
Flotrack did a "workout week" series on him (not sure when the videos took place but it was before Pre) and it seemed like he was nursing a nagging calf injury. Haas was trying to rein him in to make sure he didn't overdo things...Ches seems like a guy who has no trouble with motivation but needs to be held back a bit.
saw him in a boot in Eugene during NCAAs.
So Ches had a calf strain heading into the Pre Classic.
Obviously he hasn't raced since then, and he took a bunch of time off in the ensuing weeks.
If you want to know more details, check out this story I wrote today.
Cheserek is using one of those apps, Trackster, to log his training -- anyone with the app can view it.
Some recent highlights:
-On July 10, he writes "first run in a month"
-Since then, it looks like he's only been doing easy runs. Seems like he doesn't want to rush back into training. Understandable.

Bummer. I was hoping we'd see him back half of season.

Speaking of guys of uncertain age, does anyone know what is up with Blankenship this year? According to his IAAF page, the only thing he's run since Pre is a 4th of July 10k in Eugene.
Haven't you heard? Blankenship is 43 years old!
duh he is planting potatoes!

Sponsors don't give a rat's a** if he's out there racing all the time - especially if injured. They care about what he does in 1) Olympic Years, 2) WC years, 3) getting broad coverage.
The amount of sales he sponsors get from the letsrun segment who follow the sport is dwarfed by the sales they get from the general public. The GP knows if he makes the Olympic team. The don't know (or care) if he run some DL meet on an off year.
Sponsor athletes is like investing in startups. Most give you no return (or loss you money), but a few pay off big. It's all about the potential to pay off big rather than how consistent they are or how many races they run. That's how someone like German Fernandez was sponsored after College. Except for the occasional decent race he did not, but if'd he'd ever have solved his injury problems, then the potential was there.
he got injured if you look at his trackster app profile he mentions it and like coming back from the injury
