I can't believe anyone actually believes 8:06 is a legit women's 3000 record. The Chinese were doped to the gils. The closest "legit" 3000 not by a doped Chinese experiment is around 8:20 (Obiri).
Hence today's women's steeple delta to flat 3000 is 24 seconds. What is the men's delta... 33 seconds.
HMMMMM, which record is soft?
mmmm I get it- 8:06 is a crazy outlier, but to call the "legit" WR around 8:20 is not really a fair point. The 3000 is no longer a standard event for women and therefore is not contested very often, and even less often does anyone really go for it.
To go for it requires specialized fitness right in between 1500m training and 5000m- equal parts aerobic and anaerobic; the 3k is an asskicker of a race. Today's athletes run the 3k as either an over distance training event (for 15) or under distance speed event (for 5k).
I'd figure if todays best really trained and went for it, we'd be looking at 8:12-8:15.

I think Noah Lyles will eclipse Bolt’s times in a couple of years. And he has charisma in spades.
We need an age year-by-year PR comparison.

People seem to have a lot of insider info on who's doping around here. From my observations, it seems like white athletes are the only clean runners out there. I can't even imagine how a thought like that gains traction in a place like this.
Everyone on here has been trying to tear down Nike's great white hope (Galen Rupp ) for the last decade. Please don't call it racist
Yeah great post (sarcasm).
When rojo posts about racism, keep in mind he made a passing reference to LeBron James suffering a heart attack when trying to think of an analogy in the Purrier early celebration thread. Very very strange, in my personal record book.
I doubt that Dibaba or Obiri did not take their 3000m races seriously and therefore ran "only" 8:20...

Noah Lyles 19:65 = only 21

This has predictably devolved into a lot of people crying racist on the doping accusations. I’d just like to go on record as saying this is a huge problem in the sport and no event/athlete/country is immune. Some may have better testing regimes or less of a history of testing positive, but as we’ve seen with the TDF and else that can be misleading. But to sit here and not question some of the performances we’ve seen today is asinine (and yes, that includes both white and black athletes). You’ve got your head way in the sand if you think this is all on the up and up.
One guy left in HJ, Lysenko going for 2.38m
JAGER TIME BABY.
Looks focused on the start line. Man bun in full effect.
Conseslus looked terrible in Rabat. Calling this for Jager, easily.
well Obiri ran that time in 2014, so not THAT long ago. but i get your point.
the reality is, the men's and women's WR delta between the steeple and the flat 3000, is no more "soft" than the men's.
FFS, let's never discuss anything done by the Chinese in the Phantom Meet of 1993 as a legitimate WR.

El Bakkali is the one to beat
And they're off!
Looks like Bayer must be pacing. Sort of neat.
Jager tucked into 4th behind Bett and Kipruto.
First full lap in ~62 point.
Odds Bayer tries to Tom Byers this (even if it's not for the win)?
