Background: I'm a decent college freshman, with a 14:55 5k and slightly better XC results.
It seems like whenever I try to run more than 7.5 - 8 hours a week (90 - 105k) I always have some sort of injury. My first injury was a pulled quad in high school for XC, then I got injured when I went to college. I've been injured for the better part of a year, had a stress fracture a month into XC season, tried to get back on the horse for indoors, had some moderate foot tendinitis, now I'm ramping up my mileage again for XC season and I've come down with terrible shinsplints. I don't think I'm trying to do too much too soon, since I've spent about a month and a half working up the mileage to this point. I've also been going to the gym working on squats, deadlifts, and balance/core stuff. I also tried stretching a lot, but got injured after that. Then I tried no stretching at all, still got injured
Are there some people who just can't handle the mileage? I realize this isn't even considered high mileage, but I can never seem to get past that 110k per week threshold.
Also, if anyone has any experience improving their running on lower mileage, please let me know. I really like mileage stuff, but my body can't seem to deal with it. Any strategies for maximizing lower mileage are appreciated.
