My current 5000m PR is 16'15'' in Nike LT Streak 4 (5.5 oz).
How much can spikes improve my 5000m time?

I ran faster on the track in streak lts than in spikes. I'd say about 1-2 secs per mile faster though.
Don't have evidence but they make a huge difference.
Why would spikes make you faster in a 5k?
probably makes no difference at all

Why does every 5000 meter runner above high school wear spikes?
zero
maybey just to look cool
If you run 5k on a track anything but spikes would make you slower. Use only spikes on the track
Just last night I was talking with a couple running friends bout this. One guy, a masters runner, broke 5:00 in the mile wearing racing flats. Another who finished a couple seconds ahead of him said that he might save about 1 second per lap. I agree with that, I would say 2-4 seconds per mile.
At 5:00/mile they're worth very roughly 1 second/lap on a cinder track. On a synthetic track more like 1/4-second/ounce/mile. Not sure if the needles buy you anything unless the shoes are lighter.
1/4-second/ounce/lap.
From Jack Daniels:
"We found adding 100 grams to the shoe increased the aerobic demand of running by 1 precent. Now 100 grams is about 3.5274 ounces, so each ounce changes the cost of running about 0.2835% (1/3.5274= 0.2835). If you can run a mile in 5:40, that is going 284 meters per minute and that speed of running typically coasts about 55.55 ml O2 per Kg body weight per minute. One less ounce will change the cost to about 55.7075 (from 55.55 above) and that VO2 will be associated with a running speed of 284.7 m/min and a mile time of 5:39.17, so about .83 seconds for a mile, per ounce less weight."
