I was wondering if I could put together a list of all the shoes that broke world records in the main running events. Here is what I came up with.
100m - Usain Bolt - 9.58 - 2009 - Puma Theseus Pro
200m - Usain Bolt - 19.19 - 2009 - Puma Theseus Pro
400m - Wayde Van Niekerk - 43.03 - 2016 - Adidas Adizero Prime SP
800m - David Rudisha - 1:40.91 - 2012 - Adidas Adizero MD II
1500m - Hicham El Guerrouj - 3:26.00 - 1998 - Nike Zoom Eldoret (1996 Original)
1 Mile - Hicham El Guerrouj - 3:43.13 - 1999 - Nike Zoom Eldoret (1996 Original)
3000m - Daniel Komen - 7:20.97 - 1996 - Nike Zoom Jasari
5000m - Kenenisa Bekele - 12:37.35 - 2004 - Nike Zoom Miler
10000m - Kenenisa Bekele - 26:17.53 - 2005 - Nike Zoom Miler
3000m Steeplechase - Saif Saaeed Shaheen - 7:53.63 - 2004 - Puma Harambee
Some interesting things to note:
1. Komen appears to be running in a Jasari in a black and white colorway a lot of 1996. Oddly on Nike's own website they mark the release of the Jasari in 1998 although there are videos of Komen, Bob Kennedy, and others wearing the shoes in races in 1996. Kennedy is wearing the well known Red/Volt colorway. There are also some pictures of Komen wearing the well known colorway around the same time, but it looks like he had custom ones during his record performance similar to the ones pictured below:
2. Bekele wore the Zoom Miler upper for years, even extending into the 2012 London Olympics as shown below - although it looks like he switched to the original Victory plate once it came out. Both of his records look to be run in standard Milers though.
