Anything slower than 8:00 pace is NOT running - it's trotting or speedwalking. So how is there any benefit at all? Looking at Strata some people are running 80 mpw with most of those miles 9:00 - 10:00. How can they possibly improve???

Unless you are maybe a 16:30 5K runner, almost all of your running should be slower than 8:00 pace

Noureddine Morceli often did his recovery runs at a 10 minute mile pace. Remember make your easy runs easy and your hard runs hard i.e. Noureddine Morceli 400m reps at 55 seconds.
Depends weather its on roads or trails... Trails 8+ pace is acceptable because GPS is not accurate and it's significantly more difficult. Roads.. unless it's a cooldown or a warmup.. yeah you should be running sub 8 pace unless you're 60.
