Not quite sure what discus has to do with a team's cross country performance...
Comparing track times with xc times is like comparing apples to oranges. Track is speed oriented, xc courses do involve speed, but throw in thorns, terrain, hills more runners and things really change. Some runners are much better on the track and some runners are really better on the xc courses. So many more factors are involved in xc then running on the track that sometimes what you run on the track is not a factor to what you can or will run in cross country. Two completely different animals. I know some schools are more xc schools then track schools. At the ncaafinals with some many more schools and runners in the race so many more good and bad things can happen.
