The only good thing about that WR is it had Ovett commentating on it live.
The Kenyan pacemakers only dropped out after 1400m. Back then, even pacemakers could go for 1400m at 3:26 pace.
Even if El G was clean, none of his times would have been possible without doped up training partners and pacemakers.

A true blight and scar upon athletics...unparalleled doping. To be proud that you're a cheater shows that humans can rationalise anything.
Dude was doped to the unibrow.
My default position is to disregard all major distance performances from about 1990-ish to 2004-ish. What an unbelievable joke and it drives me nuts when people praise or analyze performances in that window as though they are real.

I have vid with Cram commenting, I should post it to youtube (maybe someone else has).
El G = cheat
No one has run faster than 3:27 clean, maybe not faster than 3:28 clean.

Another Coevett lie...
Lat pacemaker dropped out with around 350m to go. So, at around 1150m
1400m???
You lie and lie and lie.
Good morning Coevett :)

And he left out the fact that the pacemaker was no one other than Noah Ngeny. Second fastest miler ever and Olympic gold medalist.
Best thing about El G is that he would be wasted after his races, on the ground, catching his breath.
You rarely see that now a days.

Just give me a young USA-runner capable of 45- low 46 in the 400 ( body built like a miler/1500) and I will make him fly 3.24-3.25 over 1500 m in less than five years. And all done in a natural way without doping.

More like 300m to go, but yeah I was wrong in this case. There is another WR by either El G or Morcelli where the pacemakers stay with them until about 1400m. Coe, Ovett, and Cram the pacemaker nearly always dropped out after two laps.
The pacemaker for El G for the 3:26 was none other Ngeny, who would become the fastest 1000m runner in history, as well as beat El G to gold two years later. There's no way he (Ngeny) was clean. Can you imagine what the likes of Coe, Ovett, and Cram would have done with a doped up Kenyan rabbit capable of 2:12 1000 and a 3:43 mile were pacing them until the bell?
Actually El G had THREE pacemakers in that race, Ngeny being one and the last to drop off.
Ironic too that THREE Kenyans practically ensured that the WR wouldn't fall into Kenyan hands for decades (if ever).
Hopefully both of the Manangoi brothers AND Tim will agree to pace Jakob to the bell when he attempts to finally remove El G's dirty record from the books in 2 or 3 years time.

LOL, that was the only time I saw that from El G. In his other record performances he barely looks out of breath. I think his coach probably had a word with him before this Mile race and told him he was making it look all too obvious, so go straight to the floor. He probably could have carried on and broken the 5000m WR.

Coevett is jealous, racist trash.

this was his first outdoor WR, in the 1500 not Mile
Jakob to have a close race to 3.26 ? Will never happened I think…..He has not enough natural speed for that. He has a better chance to break Bekele`s 5000/10000 records.
I'm just here for the "doping" troll comments.
