Hi I'm a high school 400m and 800m runner and some kids on my team are talking about starting to take supplements before training to boost recovery or speed.
Did some research and felt that beta alanine seemed like the best option for 800m runners but I still have some questions about it, appreciate anybody taking the time to answer one or a few.
Are supplements just a bunch of bullshit? Haha, but for real does anybody have any experience trying them, or know anybody that has tried them? Wondering if the studies reporting wonderful results are all biased and run by manufacturers.
Beta alanine has the parathesis side effect, (tingling sensation) supposed to be only if you've used too much but wondering what your guys experience with that is, did it happen often? Mildly or severely?
Any other long term health risks? Couldn't find any personally but wondering if you guys know.
Will you start to rely on beta alanine? When you take melatonin pills to help fall asleep quickly your brain senses excess melatonin and stops producing it as much, meaning when you go off the pills you have a shortage of melatonin and can't fall asleep easily. Beta alanine produces carnosine which helps delay lactic acid buildup in muscles, but if you go off the supplement will you have less carnosine than you started off with? Anybody have any research about that?
Thanks in advanced
