Are you having problems on your morning runs? If so, experiment with what foods might work for you. If not, why would you consider changing? Don't go looking for solutions to problems that don't exist.
No, no problems on my morning runs. I also don’t fuel before (or during) races though and think this may be holding me back? When I ran my marathon PR last Spring, I did manage slight negative splits but was feeling very depleted the last 2-3 miles.
This fall, I tried having a banana a few hours before my goal race and then took a couple of Gatorade cups on the course. I had to stop twice to crap between miles 14-17 and it ruined my race. I jogged it in from there. It sucked.
Now, I am building up to another marathon and think maybe I should practice fueling so that my stomach is trained by race day? I don’t know. Maybe you’re right and I am just creating a problem where there isn’t Is fueling on race day even necessary if I felt decent without it? Like I said though - I believe that I could’ve used a little extra energy the last 5k of my marathon. Granted, that’s probably normal but it seemed like a glycogen issue to me. My legs were fine.
Probably should’ve included all of this in my original post, but didn’t want to be too long winded. Alas, here we are.
