All professional runners have performance incentives included in their contracts. Extra compensation is earned by yearly rankings, records, and performance in big meets (Diamond League etc). Since this is a new event with relatively few performers some companies have not included it as part of the performance incentive. I've heard that adidas is not providing any extra support or incentive for this meet, so some adi athletes are skipping it. For many athletes there was more potential money to be made in today's Diamond League meet than in this weekend's World Cup.
And the downfall of athletics world cup starts there. Are they also preventing other countries because they did not chip in for the prize money? I use to think running is pure hard work and talent. I was wrong, match fixing is now in the athletics. They can decide who wins and who doesn't win. Rock on Seb Coe.

This is hardly a new thing.
