I'm running Hood to Coast in August with several guys who've never run at night. What headlamp would you recommend for an hour long run at night? I also need recommendations for what to buy for that red blinky to wear on the back.

I've been really happy with the Petzl Actik Core Headlamp as a running headlamp
I really like this one.

I have not bought one in a while, but I would recommend going to a place like REI or your local running store (if they have them out this time of year) and trying on several to see how they fit and feel. There was one that had great reviews, but the strap was not comfortable for me.
Also, I recommend doing a few runs at night to get used to 1) running at night and 2) the controls on the light.
I have done Hood to Coast several times and each time was a blast.
when I was night running during the winter I took a LED flashlight from the dollar store and duct tape it to one of those clips you use to keep your potato chip bag closed and clipped it to the brim of my cap.
