You only needed two seconds. Why didn't you run faster? Did you not want it bad enough?
Believe it or not i acctually never realized i was anywhere near 16minutes. I had no watch and it was a XC race aha!!! I would have sprinted for my life if i knew it was seconds off!!

yawnnnnnnnnn
Nice one mate. Mature.
But did you look relaxed?
What are your times in the important distances - mile and marathon?
Ok. You dont know me, I dont know you, but can you tell me why I suck at running?
I have been training for 2 years and made some nice improvement, but since then I am getting worse. I have a problem completing my wourkouts and they are much slower than they used to be.
Nothing much changed with training.
I am 18yo and think I havent reached my potential.
Any tips?

Paula Radcliffe looks likes she suffers major spastic neck syndrome from the second she starts. Still a sub 2.18 Marathon runner. Aha!

EOT
If the XC race was accurate (seems like in the US they are always short) why don't you just run a 5000 on the track and break 16?

Hi John Bro!
Well before i jump into any sort of "tips" or "help", im very quickly just going to put it out there.... but running isnt for everyone.
Anyway, just remember 2 years is still a very short amount of time within running to see any major improvements. However, to be 2 years on and feel crap when you do sessions week in-week out with little change to training is not a good thing. And maybe this could be why. I mean theres a whole lot of aspects (that ill mention in a sec) that can play a role im as to 'why' you may feel like your not so good or "suck" in this case. Maybe mix uo the training sessions. Throw in 200's/400's/600's/800's/1k's/Miles etc etc. If you have a coach then ignore me but discuss with them why you feel like you suck but if not then definitely go out and do 2/3 days a week of intervals
For example:
- TUE= 6-8 x 400m
- THUR = 12-14 x 200m
- SAT = 4-6 x 1000m
Now this is assuming your looking to improve racing from anything i guess around 3000m+ so the '6-8 x 400m' can always jump up to 12-16 etc. So maybe try that.
If not then definitely shuffle about your training plan by making a 4 week plan on a piece of paper. Day by day, fill in a mon-sun plan writing in the types of runs to do on the given days and that should build some motivition and mental dicipline. Look to add a long run, a tempo run, 2-3 track/interval sessions and maybe a steady run. But remember recovery days are important too! So maybe try that and see what works for you. If training is always the same or always similar then maybe you need to just jump start your engine by trying something new.
When you say struggle, i assume you mean its down to fatigue or a crap respiratory level. Now if its fatigue then maybe your doing too much. And not having enough recovery from your runs. This could also be where your not training so much and in result, your legs havnt fully developed to take the load all the time. However if its respiratory problems, then i highly suggest, jumping on (for 2 weeks ONLY) just stick to easy running. Maybe 1 or 2 inteveral but the rest just easy running. Once a day should be fine. Around 3-5 miles and that should really sort out your lungs. This works for me when i have time off and definitely makes me feel great for when i tuck into hard sessions the weeks following. After the 1-2 weeks of easy stuff. Introduce faster runs and tempos etc.
With the info you gave me, its hard to determin why you say that you suck but i mean running isnt for everyone and all things play a role when it comes to this horrible sport eg- height, weight, foot strike, disability, genetics, lack of muscle development. Anything!!
Im happy to talk more dude if you'd like to reply to this again. Im 18 too and ive definitely had a shocking downfall. Early 2018 to be exact! It was to a point where my times i was running across the board were similar to what they were when i was 16 then now at 18. But i mean, all it took was a couple of weeks to get the ball rolling again adding in some races and reflecting on what it felt like to both win and lose races and the motivation really got flowing again!
You got this bro
When are you running a track 5k?!?!
And was your 10k from a flat road race?? It seems pretty quick compared to the other PRs. Your half is probably a little stronger than your 1500/3k but more in line with that 5k so you seem to have strength when you move up. Definitely have potential for a mid-2:30s marathon and then can keep going.

Yeah i made sure it was right too as my friends in the senior women race ran the same distance to me as an U20 so i asked them what their Garmin watch said and one was 5.01km and the other was 5.04km aha!
Oh 100% dude! Im all booked for a track 5K race at my venue in around a months time and im really looking forward to racing it too.
I set 16:01 on a close-to-flat XC course back in November which is XC season and track 5000's dont really pop up often. Around me anyway. So post marathon back in April ive taken a week off and now im building up for 5K+ events. :P

Hi man,
15th August ill be doing a flat 5000 bro! Im buzzing for it too! And yeah the 10k was on a flat course too which i was so pleased to see when i arrived on race day!
I mean i am definitely stronger over the longer distances as ive never really been able to hack a good middle distance race. I think its just because i dont like too much speed work training. I feel like i have to have more time off the following day.
I do have a 3000m race this saturday which im hoping to run sub 9 or as close to 9 as possible given the field and im sure im capable of running a 4.09 for 1500 but its not something i enjoy racing or race often enough to say "im 100% capable".
But thanks man! Thats acctually really encoured me saying that! Even sub 2.40 would definitely be amazing to see one day soon!!
Thanks dude. All the best!
