Traitor? That's a stretch. Other than you, who would care enough about Alexi Pappas to care what country she ran for?

Actually they're not self-written. The wedding section has a few parts: One are the briefs of the couples, perhaps 10-20 of these a week, 3 or 4 paragraphs, where they met, where they work, where they got married, where they went to college. I used to play a game called "Guess the Ivies" seeing if I could guess if they went to an Ivy League school based on their given names and professions. I hit correctly on about 60%.

The other part is an extended story of a couple that got married, thus the Pappas story. They sometimes write about famous people, semi-famous people, or not famous people at all. This story fell under that category. I'm not sure why Pappas is such a lightning rod here. She's a competitive runner, who has some outside interests, and garners some media interest. I guess that infuriates people. It's not that big of deal, really it's not.

* Also, the NY Times has done a story on marriages that didn't work, once every few months they highlight divorces. I'm guessing many of the posters on this site would fall into this category based on their constant anger and lack of self-control.

Alexi Pappas is a very good runner, having fun and making money where she can. Can't run in the Olympics for the US, run for Greece (why wouldn't you do this if you could!?). She models a healthy, fun, real approach to running for thousands of young females. Her message: you don't have to be #1 to enjoy the sport, and have a blast with it. Plus, she has great hair and eyes, and works them as much as she can (again, why wouldn't you do that!). Runs, makes movies, writes poetry, gets sponsored for wearing clothing, sounds like a pretty excellent lifestyle.

She runs? Serious question. I thought she retired years ago.

Ivy grads take care of each other. They publish each other in the Times (she had a piece there); they write about each other; and they describe their marriages. A darling of the games??? On what basis? According to whom?

The author was a St. Johns grad who used to be a sports reporter and wrote a book on Dr.J. Doesn't fit the paradigm, but maybe this was referred by someone else. However, the former NY T wedding reporter, Lois Smith Brady, acknowledges the Ivy League is key in most cases (From an interview with her):

A But also she has a point. For sure, there’s a scorecard aspect to it. But we try to change the scorecard a little bit. It’s not as obvious as they have to have an Ivy League education. The number one most important thing is whether they’re articulate or funny, not where they went to college.

Jordan is still pissed off about the "you're a mermaid" taunt from Alexi when Jordan was running her 10000 debut.

Let's take a step back and look at the big picture here. The New York Times covers a wedding of wealthy Jewish Ivy Leaguers? No surprise there.

And Alexi Pappas has a master's degree in interdisciplinary studies from Oregon. Basically, that is worth nothing. She has to do everything possible to promote herself and make a career. Utilizing her contacts at the NY Times is part of that.

Also, the amount of people on this board that despise Alexi Pappas is ridiculous, but I find it disingenuous that she still promotes herself as a runner despite not running a competitive race since the 2016 Rio 10,000.

She's had some injury issues and is now moving up to the marathon where you don't race nearly as often. I don't think it's that weird. Looks like she's running Chicago this fall.

The move up to the marathon also strikes me as a ruse to garner interest until at least the 2020 Games, as she promotes that she will attempt to run the marathon for Greece in those Games.
