The NY Times is trash these days, but to be fair -- the Styles section does long-form wedding stories from time to time. They've done that for many years.

It's a bit disingenuous for her to say she went from the worst college runner to Olympian when she became an Olympian not really through skill but by switching nations. But she still runs much faster than me.

Interesting she wants to do the marathon in 2020.

People do a remarkable job of parroting those exact things, which I find more than creepy because it's idolatry instead of admiring a performance of an athlete. I find her writing style atrocious, and did actually watch the film while on a flight (for some odd reason, American Airlines had this on their planes on international flights) and it was gag worthy but her husband shows promise as a filmmaker.

But the NY Times loves labels over substance. But kudos to the shameless whoring out and product placement for their wedding and wedding photos. If that doesn't tell me they're in love, I don't know what will.

She definitely knows someone at the NYT. The video series and now this wedding column? I’m just curious who her contact is. Her networking skills far exceed her running skills, but good on her.

A legend in her own mind, and desperately grasping on to her 15 minutes of fame. But as Paris Hilton and several others found out, you can only remain in the spotlight for so long with no substance.

She has been dropped by Nike as now has Champion as a clothing sponsor. Yes, Champion, a dead brand from the past.

She became an Olympian because she added a Greek passport not because she ran and competed to make a team.

Congrats on the marriage, they make a great team.

You conservatives really do look for stuff to be "triggered" by. This piece appeared in the Weddings section and there are long stories about newlywed couples under the "Vows" subheading literally every week in the NYT. And the article referred to her as "a darling," not "the darling," of the Games. Though I suppose that's debatable, again it's a Wedding story in a feel-good, personal interest section of the NYT and hardly worthy of outrage (nor I imagine does the NYT fact-check these kinds of stories with the rigor of the news section). By the way, the New York Times is an international treasure. There is no other newspaper in the world that has its range or depth of coverage. Just because you and your fellow nuts call something "fake" enough times doesn't make it true!

Like it or not, the NYT is an important newspaper. They do have a Wedding Vows section, although it doesn't show up as much as it used to. It mostly used to feature weddings of high-society Ivy League WASP types but is probably trying to branch out (it was a Jewish ceremony ,but still Ivy League grads so lol).

For what it's worth, I've met Alexi a few times and she was very nice and friendly, so I hesitate to say anything bad about her and I do wish her well. Speaking objectively, her prose writing is very poor though, and her filmmaking and acting mediocre. If it weren't for the fact that she was a decent pro runner (albeit switching nations), plus an aspiring filmmaker/writer, she wouldn't garner much attention for either pursuit. It's just the combination of both that make it a human interest story. Based on the merits of her creative work alone, she does not deserve all the attention she gets. That's clearly her networking and self-promotional skills at work. It makes me wonder about all the other, far more talented aspiring writers and filmmakers (or, for that matter, aspiring Olympic runners) who work their asses off and get a fraction of the recognition or opportunities she gets.

But she seems nice and there are a lot greater injustices in the world and life is short, so who really cares.

Champion is anything but dead

I don't think she did anything notable at the Olympics. She ran well, but wasn't a factor in any race and I don't think made any waves there. Maybe they were confusing her with Abbey D'Agostino?
