a run of any distance or time can have some value depending on your goal for it.. if you do it fast enough you will get a great workout, working your vo2 max, aerobic and anaerobic capacity. but even if you do it really slow it can still have value including focusing on improving your form, muscular endurance and recovery, even helping depression because of another boost of endorphins.

This is the correct answer. But you do need to take into consideration other factors and look at the value of that second run. Are you getting enough recovery and sleep? Maybe for your friends they don’t see the value in getting up earlier, putting in nearly an hour just for a 2 mile run. It’s not worth it to them.
If that’s their point I could see their point... but if you are on summer break and sleeping 10 hours a night there’s some value in an evening shake out. It is really up to you.
