108 k a day wrote:
This guy is legit and he definitely has the resume that he may be able to set the record. He has some distance records already and has run a hell of a lot more than 108k in 24 hours many times. It’s actual not a long distance for him in 24 hours. But, yes, the issue is doing it for so many days in a row. Still he’s also got great motivation which should help - raising money for a good cause (rare disease) and with his son suffering from a rare disease (RECA). I hope he does it and will be following.
Dave Proctor is a legit runner but I think he overestimates what he can do over 66 days on a daily basis.
As always raising money for a good cause has nothing to do with the ability to cover great distances. Dave has scheduled already 30 events. I think that will get him in trouble because you can't plan your record attempt around appearances for your good cause.
I also like to point out that Dave did not do well in his 6 day race he tried. Went out too fast and couldn't maintain that speed.
Yesterday he did 87.81 miles, which is a lot if you "only" have to do 67.8 miles per day.
Current record holder Al Howie was one of the most accomplished ultrarunners and his Trans Con record through Canada is one of the all time great performances in Ultrarunning. It has to be seen, if a rookie like Dave Proctor ( in multidays) can pull this off.
