I don’t get it. Are they that proud of where they went for college? Or just want to show off?

I think generally people are done buying t-shirts by the time they graduate college. Whatever you’ve acquired at that point is your t-shirt inventory for the rest of your life.
Still worth wearing to an athletic event like homecoming or if you live in your college town still.
My favorite is the Harvard/MIT shirts worn by people that obviously didn't go there.
student loans put a 15 year hiatus on clothes shopping?

This. I have a ton of t-shirts that I got for participating in some event in undergrad or grad school, so I just grab one of them when I want to wear a t-shirt. I'm not going to go out and buy more t-shirts to replace my current ones.
You can get a college shirt in a size that fits a 3 year old so I'm guessing there is little correlation between wearing the shirt and attending the school.
Also alumni license plate frames. Lame.
Also, what's up with Americans and license plate frames? Especially frames that advertise the car dealer. You probably got ripped off on your car and you still give them free advertising? And apparently I'm other states it's common for the dealer to paint their logo on the trunk. Gross.
Go Euro style. No license plate frames. Also, stop with the bumper and window stickers. Ok, so you like the NRA and think that the second amendment is "the original Homeland security" and you've got a quote from Thomas Jefferson. I suppose I know to avoid you now.

Totally agree with this post.

Yeah, I don’t mean like that. If you’re going to watch a game, then it makes sense. I’m talking about the random people I saw walking around Breckenridge, Colorado. One was wearing a Pepperdine t-shirt and another an Arizona State t-shirt.

Do free t-shirts increase college tuition?

It's actually a great conversation starter. I get people that come up and talk to me all the time at airports. Big alumni network.
People are proud of their colleges.
You live in Texas. Do you really think it is weird to see people wearing A&M and Texas gear?

No, not really, I mean, those are the major state schools. I do think it’s weird to see people in Colorado wearing Pepperdine or Arizona State gear. It’s not like you’re going to run into someone else from one of those schools that are so far out of state.

Yeah, it's exactly what's gonna happen.

I've never observed this. If I see someone in a Harvard t-shirt and I ask them about it, they always turn out to be an alum.
I do wear a cross country t-shirt from a college I didn't attend because I trained quite a bit with the team when I was in my early 20s and lived nearby the campus. I consider it a tribute to my former training buddies.
Cause if your still running they still fit. You'll understand better 20 years from now.

I thought t-shirts would be worn out after about five years. How could they last 20? I’m not thinking about if they still fit, just that the wash/dry cycle would make the letters fade at least.

I was in Florida recently and I saw 3 A&M families and a Texas family all in Diagon freaking alley.
Now those are big schools....but a guy in my department went to Pepperdine. So they're out there. People just are proud of where they went. For many it is a defining period of their life that they have fond memories of.
