Honestly it's not even the weight gain that's bothering me the most, it's the constant hunger that is the worst part. How can I get my hunger under control? My current diet obviously isn't working.
Learn to live with it. There's no rule stating that you have to be 100% comfortable all the time.
^^^^WRONG, WRONG, WRONG, WRONG
First off, I'm a biomedical scientist, I got my professional degree from Rutgers University. Not only that, I am a runner and have dealt with everything you're talking about. I am going to tell you my story and what I know.
OK, if you are hungry all the time that means you need to eat more at each meal. Right now, your body is slowing down its metabolism and retaining calories, because it knows it not getting enough. If you are hungry, its because your body needs more energy to function. Remember food is for recovery, fuel, and LIFE. Its not something to try and just avoid. You will not perform at your optimal level if your body is retaining calories to allow its cells to work at an optimal level. Your body could care less about you being able to run fast, if you don't give it enough food, your running will suffer. How do you know if your giving your body enough food->>it makes you hungry.
My story:
I was in college and started to eat less thinking if I could lose more wight, it would take less energy to run fast. I was hungry all the time, and going to bed very hungry was a must or I ate too much throughout the day. Diet was mainly fruits and veggies plus nothing high in calories. AND GUESS WHAT, I started GAINING weight. AND GUESS WHAT I was miserable and GUESS WHAT I got SLOWER. I did this for 1.5yrs. After the 1st year of getting these results. I cut my calories EVEN more. I got more weight gain (skinny-fat appearance), more miserable, and even slower. My coach made me see a nutritionist, my muscle mass was completely gone (even though I was weight training). I was like I have two options start eating 2 meals a day (cause I cant cut my meals anymore, so would have to just skip out on a meal) or make a change.
The day I decided to never starve myself again is one of the proudest moments of my life. It took time to learn to eat normal again, that I didn't have to be hungry all the time. Anxiety that I used to have lifted, because I used to be so nervous about having to deal with the hunger and scared about eating. It is such a relief, even though this was 4 yrs ago, til this day I still feel so proud when I eat, that I eat till I'm completely satisfied and the anxiety I had over food is gone.
Ok, so what you're waiting for. When I started making sure I was satisfied all the time. It took some time for my body to adjust, but I LOSS WEIGHT, I was HAPPY, I got FASTER! I couldn't believe how my body responded. I was so grateful that I decided to make a change and my body was too! I got my life back! Humans are not designed to be hungry all the time, were not, if someone tells you to be hungry all the time, they're stupid.
Make sure to eat a little bit of everything: eat fruits, veggies (including beans and potatoes), lean protein, carbs, and freaken dessert too! You're probs not eating enough thats why you're not loosing. Also, doing more body strength work will help you gain muscle mass and lose weight.
