Who cares, he is not American born. Right, Rojo and his lordship Gault?
That makes him a crap 800m runner otherwise he'd be running 1:39 not 1:43
Either that or his coach is clueless and just lucky to have such talented athletes.

Or maybe running 1:39 is really hard and it takes a few tries first?
Similar to Juantorena

Are the Kenyan champs not also at altitude?
In other words, Kenyans are really slow in the 400 if an 800 meter runner can blow them away by two seconds. Sad.
Is this 45 flat at sea level?

No similar would be running world records and winning Olympic golds. The horse was also built a bit differently so you'd expect the drop off.
I'd just be more impressed with this Kenyan running 1:42 than dropping his 400m time.. unless he's thinking of switching to 400m

Who is Gault?
I bet the US champs have more people in the stands than the Kenyan Champs.

A bit like Michael Johnson being a rubbish 400m runner:
19.32 and could only manage 43.18 (x2 + 4.54)
I think these are the only notable 400m runners to break 20 seconds:
Wayde van Niekerk is faster with 19.84
LaShawn Merritt 19.74

Jon Mulkeen has the time at 44.21.
Kenyan trials held at over 5000 ft roughly equal to Denver
What’s notable?
The makwala Guy or whatever has run sub 44 and sub 20.

Bingo. His Coach (Paul Ereng), knows a thing or two regarding the 800m. WR within 2 years, I'd say.
More curious why there are only 30 people in the stands at the Kenyan Champs. Looks like Des Moines.
Please correct the headline to 44.21
He came within 0.03 of the Kenyan record of 44.18
He is therefore faster than Juantorena.

Yes. He's waaaaay up there. Juantorena was faster at 400 with inferior training, and about as fast at 800. And Juanto ran his 400 at sea-level.
Korir is benefitting from altitude and no doubt PED use while away from the prying eyes of honest officials. As for the "coach" saying Korir should be running 1:39, one hopes he's trolling. The 800 is an odd event, with 44 guys being outperformed over 2 laps by 47 sec runners. Cruz was a far better 800 man than Emmanuel will ever be (without drugs) and he could never get anywhere near 46 flat, never mind a 44 in an open 400.

Not at sea level lol. Korir's time is worth about 45.1 at sea level.

Or his time is worth 44.21... because that is what he ran! I understand the altitude has a positive impact on sprint performance but the fact that you can't appreciate his performance when he has already demonstrated down at sea level in Texas that he is a 44 mid runner is pretty lame... lol.

Corrected, El Paso is at 3k feet. Still doesn't bother me, I'm content to be impressed by his versatility and not talk down on performances that very few 800m specialists in the history of track and field would be able to match.
RIP: D3 All-American Frank Csorba - who ran 13:56 in March - dead
RENATO can you talk about the preparation of Emile Cairess 2:06
Great interview with Steve Cram - says Jakob has no chance of WRs this year
Running for Bowerman Track Club used to be cool now its embarrassing
Hats off to my dad. He just ran a 1:42 Half Marathon and turns 75 in 2 months!
