Oiselle says Tori Franklin broke her Oiselle contract to compete for Nike at USAs

To me Tori Franklin should of stuck with Oiselle through USATF's and was somewhat disloyal.

Desi Linden on the other hand is absolutly ridiculous. Her disloyalty is unmatched in the sport. I would of felt the same way if Hansons decided to part ways with Desi. After 13 years with such a rags to riches success story she has ruined it for me. She now falls into the category of "success changes people". I am no longer a fan.

That is generally how it works in sports. If you sign a contract and perform above the value of it you can't just leave your team for another that will pay more. Anyways, Tori was not an employee so it is irrelevant.

You are incorrect. Contracts are renegotiated or broken all the time, especially in sports. Usually there is some kind of negotiation and exit compensation/penalty paid. No team wants an unhappy athlete, or company a malcontent employee.

Yes, athletes can renegotiate, demand a transfer/trade or have an out clause in their contract but they can't just give two weeks notice and go to another team in the middle of a season like most of us can. I know no examples of athletes breaking their contract and paying a penalty to go to another team.

I don't know about mid-season examples for NBA and NFL players, I was thinking off-season. I know players sometimes force trades before trade deadlines. For these players we are talking about big money, million dollar contracts.

In the Tori Franklin and Oiselle contract we are talking about a trivial amount of money. If reports are accurate it was $3500 for gear, travel and medical expenses.

Nike probably offered her something in the mid 5 figures, possibly more if she becomes Olympic champion. However it was probably contingent on jumping to Nike for the US champinoships this year.

You probably have an at will contract that either party can terminate at any time. That's 99.99% of employment contracts. If you have something else, it usually means you're either a star or you're getting access to trade secrets. Reasonable non compete agreements are enforceable. In many industries, you can't just leave and go to a competitor, especially if you're taking knowledge acquired from your previous employer that would be of use to a rival firm.

I don’t know why everyone is claiming loyalty to a corporation, it’s just business. It’s not like Sally actually cared about Tori. If she did, she wouldn’t A) ask her to refuse a very great offer in a scarce market B) put a blog out to defame her character when she doesn’t cooperate.

Sally didn’t care at all for Tori’s financial well being or her reputation, so what’s the point of loyalty anyways?

I had heard of her when she set the American record. Admittedly, I don't follow women's TJ all that closely. I do recall kentura orji placing 4th in Rio though. That was the prior Am Record holder.

The blog by OIselle is extremely passive aggressive. Total BS.

Oiselle says they are "By and for women athletes". I wasted my 20s working for a company with a "cause" that we all believed in. The owner took advantage of everybody connected with that company. We were paid poorly, worked 70 hour weeks with unpaid hours, covered company expenses out of our own pockets. It was like belonging to a cult. The owner eventually sold the company and made a nice profit for himself. The rest of us got nothing.

It wouldn't be unheard of for Oiselle to turn profitable (if it hasn't already) and then sell to a larger company. Build up the "brand" with good/steady/growing sales and a list of endorsements - and that's all you need. Enter a larger brand, but not super-large, and they can snap up the company.
