My mom and dad were immigrants and then became citizens. They are nurses and I remember my dad telling me that he and my mom would walk a mile or two every time from the grocery store to their apartment.
Now I have graduated college and applying for jobs. There is this one place where my education fits and my courses are a very good match!
However this place is about 40 miles away. I'm going to get a license soon and my dad is going to drive me there tomorrow for the interview. But I remember him saying that it isn't worth it - driving about 80~100 miles a day total just back and forth from work.
I don't know whether to feel excited, grateful, or a bit concerned about even having an interview with this place tomorrow. It's ruining my mojo. A part of me feels dampened but also a bit happy. If this place was closer, I would be so excited.
If the interviewer asks me how much of a salary I am looking for, I am going to ask for the maximum. My degree is in the sciences, not in the finances. Maybe I might sound entitled, but do recruiters/interviewers change the compensation rate for a candidate knowing that they will spend at least 2 hours on the road every day for work?
Thank you.
