My Physical education teacher told me that if you can get under 8:50 for men and 10:50 for females (running for 1 and a half miles) you have a high vo2 max (good fitness of the heart) and are considered fitter than 99% of the population. And that average is about 15 minutes. I would like to achieve the 99% so I can beat everyone but I am going to be honest, I can’t run 1 and a half miles without stopping. I am 16 years old and play lots of football most days of the week at school and on the park aftr school, try to eat lots of fruits (not vegetables because theyre horrible) and have abs muscles on show so I am not out of shape so losing weight won’t help. I am the fastest sprinter in my class and can run a mile in a bit under 7 minutes (about 6 and a half) but after i get to a mile i cant go on any more. When i run even a mile my legs get jelly after half way through and i slow down a lot. I know it is going to take some time and training but how can i get 8 minutes and 50 seconds on a 1 and a half mile run test? I am very fit in other areas, i can jump high, good at climbing, sprint fast and do lots of push ups and play football for hours on end but i just cant seem to get myself to run further than a mile.
Can i get some help on how to improve? I love to exercise so i dont care if the training is hard and painful.
