Lewisville Flower Mound from Texas is top 5 in my opinion
Wayzata will be top 5.
CBA will be top 5. They have a very good program and placed 7th at NXN after losing 5 guys from the 2016 NXN team. They are returning 4 guys from the 2017 NXN team. Their #1 runner at NXN 2016 did not race at all in 2017 XC or 2018 track and he will be a senior this year. If he can get back to where he was in 2016, CBA could crack the top 3.
St. Francis isn't even close to the best team in California next year. Dana Hills is. Duh.
Dana
Great Oaks
Loyola
Dublin
St. Francis
St. Francis is way overrated.

St Francis still have a good chance to make it to NXN again.
They placed 9th at NXN last year and return 6 of their top 7
You're going to see a very competitive season next year for Texas, on the boys side (haven't really looked at the girl's).
Just some info below:
*Note, I only included figures on RETURNEES. So if it says, "5 sub 4:40" it means, 5 guys that are returning ran sub 4:40.
The Woodlands (1 XC returning running)
1st XC State
5 sub 4:40 runners returning, but only 2 sub 10:00 in track (9:17, 9:59).
Southlake Carroll (3)
2nd XC State
11 guys sub 4:40 (that are returning), but only 3 sub 10:00 athletes in track returning (9:36, 9:48, 9:54).
So on paper, neither The Woodlands or Southlake Carroll seem to be returning many XC guys, but we all know they are always filled with talent and will reload by next year. Carroll will probably have the better depth, while TWL will have a great #1.
Flower Mound returns:
8th XC State (qualified for NXN by finishing 1st at regionals)
Returns 5 from cross country.
Led by Alex Maier 8:52 PR (although he was injured this year and faltered out) and Jarrett Kirk 4:15/ 9:09
5 sub 10:00, 5 sub 4:40
1 Freshmen (4:44/9:57)
Kingwood:
6th at State
*Note, Hurricane Harvey seemed to have affected Kingwood in particular more than all of these other schools I mentioned.
Returns 6 from cross country.
Top 3 in Track and XC were: Carter Storm 4:12/9:25, Nick Majerus 4:19/9:15, Trent Nolen 4:19/9:36
Only one other returnee broke 10:00.
Smithson Valley
5th at State
Returns 7 from cross country.
3 sub 10:00 this season, 5 sub 4:40.
Katy Tompkins
4th at State
Returns 5 from cross country.
4 sub 10:00, 3 sub 4:40.
#1 4:17/9:14
Klein
7th at State
Returns 6 from cross country
4 sub 10:00, 5 sub 4:40
2 are Freshmen

Where did Dana Hills finish at state and NXN last year? Track times don’t mean much at Woodward. SF returns 6/7 guys to a team that finished 9th at NXN in their first try. Not sure the term overrated fits in this case. Maybe “overachiever” is more appropriate?

Dana Hills finished 3rd at state in the Division 1 race and didn’t get an at large bid for NXN. St Francis (the team that won the division 2 race) was the team that got the at large bid to NXN.

Correct. Since CA uses the State meet for NXN berths, they take the top 20 teams running that day and do a "reordered" meet to determine the top 2 auto teams and which ones are 3rd and 4th for possible at large bids. SF was the third team and got the bid. They went on to beat the #2 CA team at NXN on the way to a 9th place finish overall. An earlier commenter said they were overrated, which I do not agree with at all.
Teams are all scored together, it doesn't matter which division. Teams from D2 and even D3 teams have gone to NXN through merge results despite not directly racing D1 teams.

Liam Anderson from California is the top returner in the nation. He got 3rd at NXN last year behind 2 people that graduated (Troutner and Hasty). He also ran an 8:52 this spring in the 3200. Right now, I think he has the best chance to win NXN individually.
