How many HS long jumpers can jump across a street or a two car driveway? That is what caught my attention. This kid has some serious hops..

He looks like an okay long jumper who has airtime sometimes. Or, just another basketball player.
I bet Mike Powell would be insane at that type of stuff.
As any neuro-scientist can tell you, the limiting factor for humans in outputting quadricep power is neuro-capacity. Only about 85% (typical for humans) of the muscles can be actuated, due to central nervous limitations. Some ppl are closer to 90%, an exceptional guy seemingly near 95% was on some "SuperHumans" show episode once, throwing refrigerators IIRC (not as cool as jumping, but the guy was like 20+ stone too). Likely, these "jumper" kids have more responsive quadriceps, to their brains. It could be genetic.
The standard driveway length for a single-car driveway is 18 to 20 feet long and the standard width is 10 to 12 feet wide. A two-car driveway where the cars are parked side-by-side needs to be 18 to 20 feet wide and 18 to 20 feet long.

What's the song at the beginning of the video? It sounds like this dude:

So in other words, the less neuro-capacity you have overall, the more you can convey to the quad muscles? Interesting, seems like being dumber helps you jump more.

Nevermind I found the song at the beginning of the video is this:

23' 7'' Long Jump PR (indoors) as a high school freshman with very little practice or refined technique

More "stunt" jumps

any neuroscientist can tell you that it isn't spelled neuro-scientist.

this is a complete misunderstanding of the situation.
mammals can activate 100% of their muscle fibers, but they can maximally activate only around 80% - 90% of muscle fibers at any one time. over time, as exercise proceeds, groups of muscle fibers are recruited to replace those that become fatigued or have their fuel supplies depleted or whatever. the recruitment process is controlled by the neuro-muscular system.
the behaviour of groups of muscle fibers can be altered through training, and many many studies have shown that if there is one single limiting factor to power output, it is a history of demand. the more sports you do, the more jumping, leaping, running and bounding you do, the better your muscles become at the things you ask of them. that is why we go training in the first place. you get better at the things you do.
cheers.
It looks like he'd dominate if they raised hurdles six inches or so.
People on here are saying he should long jump because he can jump across a driveway. I don't disagree. But there's a part at about 1:45 where he jumps up at what claims to be an 8 foot rim and almost gets his hips to the rim. Kid has hip height of almost 8 feet if that is accurate and his approach isn't very good. Dude should learn how to high jump.
Reminds me....another way to wipe your sweaty junk on someone's head.

Almost like Lamarckian evolution or something.

Jordan could have made that last one the guy was trying. This kid has great ups but not as good overall as Jordan and some of the other top dunkers.
PEDs? ;)

Pretty bad lj technique in that video. He definitely has a lot of potential to improve based on this one jump.
