I’m going to be flying to Colorado soon, and will be arriving in Denver. I want to do a few miles when I get there, but I don’t know the city at all. Where are some good places to run? Thanks.

You might want to mention where you will be in Denver.

I’ll be arriving at the airport and then driving up to Breckinridge, so I won’t be staying in Denver itself for more than a few hours, but I want to run there first before going into higher altitude. I’ve been to Colorado before, but usually I can run before leaving. Just this time my parents scheduled a very early flight.
I live in the Boulder area, so never ran there personally. But I know a lot of folks run in Wash park or along the S. Platte River trail. Good luck.
Airport is way outside of Denver, so you might just want to run on the country roads east of it. High plains delightful.

Is there a lot of traffic on those roads?
You will be taking I70 to Breck. As you near the mountains, just past the 470 connector get off at the Red Rocks exit. and head south. There is trail head to Mathews Winters Park right there and a bunch of other trails as you head towards the park.
This is just off the freeway and when you are done you can get right back on and head west again on 70.
First of all, do not take I-70 to Breck. Take 285 to 9 to Breck (it may be the most underrated route in Colorado). Secondly, the trails around DIA are nice but not simple to get to. Run the Highline Canal before traveling to Breck. Start at University and Araaphoe-ish and do an out and back. It is one of the best places to run in the city IMO.
Five Points in Downtown Denver. ?
Just two exits (about 3 miles) south of the C470 - I70 interchange is the town of Morrison, you can park there and run east onto the bike path and enter Bear Creek Park. Lots of isolated roads, bike paths, and trails.
And from there just another short exit to Hwy 285 if you choose that route.
Matthew Winters Park is more scenic but also a rougher trail, so parts of it can be more of a hike.
