England thru...on PKs!!!!
Harry Kane is a beast on PKs. Been a long time since I've seen someone make it look so easy...maybe harkening back to the days of Eric Cantona
Best since Matt le Tissier who scored 47 out of the 48 he took.
That's a name I haven't heard in a long time.
Perfect header for France, incredible save by their keeper.
1-0 over URG at the half.
Was glad to see a couple yellow cards early. Physical play out there, but this ref is solidly in control...

Can someone explain to me why Sweden keeps chugging along? They have a bunch of scrubs out there. They remind me of the 4th line of an NHL team.
Besides Croatia, Uruguay, and Belgium, I haven't been impressed with any of the other teams. Overall talent wise, Sweden is on par with Russia, England and France.
No. Just no.
As is obvious from today's first result, France is much better than Uruguay, dominating them from start to finish.
Brazil, Belgium and Croatia are the other strongest teams in the tourney. The Brazil-Belgium and France-Uruguay games are effectively the World Cup semis and the resulting match is more or less the actual final, with Croatia as some sort of dark horse on the other side of the bracket. The other teams on that side are there due to systemic corruption and German under-achievement.
FRANCEAFRIQUE!
What was the purpose of that ridiculous flop when they were already up 2-0? At least they gave Mbappe a yellow.
I guess I’m the only who was more impressed with Uruguay. They shut Mbappe down, played amazing defense, just had those two mistakes that cost them: the foul that gave Antonio the free kick, and then the GK not clearing the strike.
Uruguay should have been awarded a PK for the obvious Giroud hold in the box, LLoris made a big big save to prevent Uruguay from scoring.
Had Cavani played, Uruguay would have won this game, but on to the next.
Bring on the Red Devils!
That’s it!
I can’t take Alexi Lalas any longer....he is insufferable

I was going to respond to this ridiculous statement. Sweden on par with France and England talentwise? Lol.
But I'm sure England will blow it again and crash out. I predict 1-0 Sweden win tomorrow, probably courtesy of an England own goal.

Well, you're free to be more impressed with the team that lost by two goals if you wish. The loss of Cavani was certainly difficult to absorb. On the other hand, France was pushing forward throughout the second half and could have won this by three or four goals.

This would be absolutely classic form.
Even though I picked England to make the semis from that side of the bracket, there is higher entertainment value in an England choke, so I'm pulling for that. The sight of the devastated England players after losing to Iceland in Euro 2016 still brings me a chuckle.
A Sweden upset would be great. Gotta root for my home team's (Seattle Sounders) only guy left in the tournament, Gustav Svensson!

There's an MLS player in the World Cup quarters? The league has finally made it!
Good to see KDB starting up front as a right forward, hazard in the left forward position, and lukaku as the center forward. But Fellani in the double pivot with Witsel? I just don’t know man. I just don’t know. I like him as a sub, to get in the box as a forward and put in some headers. He is excellent at that, but to be the defensive mid? Witsel is terrible defensively and so is Fellani. They are both better at offense. And then Vincent Company as the Centerback? Dude is well past his prime. The middle of the pitch could get destroyed by Brasil.
I would have put Mertens in as a right wingback behind KDB. He can go box to box, and would put offensive pressure on Marcelo, while KDB goes deep into the box.
I hope it works . At least he can bring in Carrasco and Mertens in as super subs.
But fellani and company starting has me nervous s h i t.
Cristiano and Messi fans can now stop wondering what could've been. There's nothing Portugal or Argentina could've done to beat France.
He is an idiot. wrote:
