If Cavalli is out, I don't see Uruguay having enough firepower to beat France. I think they had one shot on goal in the 2nd half. Granted some of this is due to protecting the lead, but still....that's not good

Oh my god. What. A. Game. That's what the World Cup is all about.
Stars coming up big (Cavani and Godin), stars looking lackluster (Ronaldo). Ronaldo gave the ball away too much trying to get past players. He finally looks old.
The referee was awful. He lost control of that game and fouls got too hard, players got hurt. He should not officiate a game for the rest of the Cup.
That pitch was like a putting green after a hard rain. Awful.
Uruguay parked the bus after the 2nd goal and Portugal played right into it. Uruguay is perfectly fine with defending crosses all day long. Bend don't break for sure.
I can't see this Uruguay team holding up against France. If they had this much trouble with Portugal, they will have even more trouble against France.
Tomorrow's games seem a bit lop-sided, but who knows what will happen, it's the World Cup! Croatia is my dark horse to get to the finals from the weak side of the bracket. The other contenders on that side of the bracket (Spain, England, Columbia) don't look as refined and smooth.
End of possibly the greatest era in soccer history.
Will we ever see two players go toe to toe on a mega star level again?
Only other sport I can think of that had something similar was bird vs magic in basketball, but even that wasn’t on the level of Messi vs Ronaldo.
Portugal fans still there in the stadium, standing and staring into space, devastated.
Will they eventually go home DEVASTATED?

The Centrowitz doppelganger looks most devastated of all ☹️

With Argentina/Messi and Ronaldo/Portugal crashing out, today was sort of the symbolic end of an era for football. But I think this will be a good thing for football. Messi and Ronaldo dominated the club game for so long, and Spain and Germany played a dominating, but boring style of football. Now the game is wide open and new stars have a chance to take the spotlight.
Also, Mbappe vs. Neymar, club teammates, is a possibility later in the Cup.

Or Cavani if he's back

If he goes to Real he will become their next James Rodriguez
You've read a great deal bro.
For a long time, I wasn't into trying to understanding Christianity until a few years ago. I only used to attend mass and that was it!
As I tried to understand it, I realised that it was vast and very detailed and that not people even understand the History of Christianity and how it actually came about. I don't and can't claim to understand it wholly either (perhaps no one does) but I do have a working knowledge.
So, regarding the book, and many have been written on the subject, it was like several others, written by a Catholic convert.
The guy, Rod Bennett, a protestant evangelist was trying to understand the History of Christianity when he stumbled upon an old document in a Library that contained Christianity in the first 200 years (up to 200 AD!)
That is what made him write the book.
He basically dwells on the early (primitive Church ) in the first 300 years. He talks of how Eonceptions exist even today and have been believed by those opposed to the Church as the truth.
That said, according to him, for the first 600 years on Earth, the Church remained pure and undefiled and that this is something that was even acknowledged by Martin Luther and Calvin!
The book talks about four leaders of the Church:
1. Clement of Rome
2. Ignatious of Antioch
3. Justin Martyr
4. Irenaeus of Lyons
These FOUR SAINTS were all BISHOPS of the Church.
1. Clement of Rome-the Fourth Pope.
He wrote the epistle to the Corinthians at just about the same time that the Gospel of John was written.
He was consecrated as Bishop by St. Peter.
He is a student of St. Peter and St. Paul. He heard them preach the gospel through and through. HE is considered the first Father of the Church.
He was instrumental in converting many pagans. He died circa 100 AD.
His name is written in the book of life (Philippians) according to St. Paul the evangelist.
Yes, this guy was consecrated by St. Peter who was personally taught by Christ Jesus!
2. St. Ignatius of Antioch was the third bishop of Antioch after St. Evodius (who is believed to have coined the word 'CHRISTIAN' in reference to the disciples of Jesus) , who was the immediate successor of St. Peter.
It is said that St. Ignatius heard St. John preach when he was a boy and knew St. Polycarp, Bishop of Smyrna.
St. Polycarp was a student of St. John- the Apostle whom the people referred to as the beloved because Christ Jesus loved him.
He wrote seven letters and was thorwn to the beasts at the Coliseum for his refusal to renounce his faith. He wrote his epistles around 107 AD (at or around the close of the Apostolic age) urging the Christians to hold firm to their faith.
3. Justin Martyr........wrote that the Church had spread across the world. It was around 150 AD.
In the book of Acts, Jesus had instructed his disciples to sperad his gospel across the world and they did amid lots of problems and risks.
He taught and defended Christianity in Asia Minor and was an apologist of the faith.
He lived in the second Century.
4. Irenaeus of Lyons ......His writings lay the groundwork of Christian theology. He also debunked the works of gnostics.
He wrote great works against heresies and heretics.
HE learnt at the feet of St. Polycarp, himself a student of St. John the Apostle (John the beloved).
It is said that most of the works of these great Saints who were all Bishops of the Church agree with the Didache.
So, Ignatius of Antioch (of let's run dot com),
In my opinion, this book is very good for beginners like me. I loved it and this Summer, I intend to read another one. I just don't know which.
May be you can suggest one for me........a simple book.
Sorry if I sound to disjointed. I feel bad that my team lost to France.
Dudes, come on man, this is soccer thread. Lets keep it that way. We're not here for lessons in Theology.

No way in hell. The dude is just too good and will start immediately. Ronaldo is gone after this year. He will probably go to MLS. He is 34. Bale is looking to get back in the premier league. I imagine they are going to go hard after Eden Hazard after the World Cup, and then go after Mbappe, and then go after Harry Kane. They got Bale and Modric from Tottenham, so I'm sure they will get Kane too for about 100 million
Eden Hazard to Real has been brewing for the past 4 years, and I believe this year Eden will finally pull the trigger and leave Chelsea. There is nothing else for him to accomplish there. He is my favorite player playing on my favorite team, but it's time to go to La Liga.
Real's front line will probably look like this in the next year or so : Hazard - Kane - MBappe
Real Madrid hasn't really spent any money since acquiring bale. It is time for them to go on a huge shopping spree.
Ronaldo has said he has no intention of ever playing in the MLS which is a retirement league for former stars. Harry Kane, like Salad, is only a superstar in England due to British media hype, but the rest of the world isn't as impressed. Mbappé, on the other hand, is a true superstar in the making and will indeed end up at the Bernabeu along with Hazard.
Ronaldo had his moment with Portugal at the Euros, Messi should stick around with Argentina to have one last go at the Copa.

Are you kidding me? Kane would be at Real Madrid right now, but winter negotiations went sour. Kane basically rejected a deal after hearing that Ronaldo wasn't too thrilled about Real going after Kane. Once Ronaldo leaves, Kane will be at Real.
Man, no way in hell will Ronaldo turn down the money and american endorsements that he will be hit with to go to MLS. It will be Beckham all over again. dude will be in MLS just like Zlatan, Rooney, Drogba, Villa, Lmaprd, Gerard, etc.....

I think so too.
The fact that he didn't retire today alongside Mascherano might indicate that he has some unfinished business. He'll be 35 during the next world cup which isn't too old.
Even if he doesn't make it that far , he still has one more Copa America in him but with this coach, the story might still be the same.

All I heard is 'this guy is black so I love him and this other guy is not so he's rubbish'
Pretty normal for you AFE?
While we agree on the quality of the match, Croatia, and the lousy conditions, I couldn’t disagree more on following assertions:

This was one of the best referred games of the tournament. Go back and look at the fouls, it was very clear from the onset that the referee was not going to reward flopping. There was very few hard fouls that were not called. What we did see was a lot of rolling around to no avail and towards the end of the match the players began to realize they would get the ticky tacky fouls. The only reason this game was as good as it was is because of it he ref.
Cavani didn’t go out as a result of hard fouls (only Suarez flopped more than him) he went out with a strain calf, probably from slip sliding around on that foosball table of a field.
I think Uruguay has a great chance against France. Both have solid defenses and counter attack capability. If it’s possible, the France Uruguay game will be even better than the Argentina game. I’ve got Uruguay to the semis, but I really love me this French side.
