Can someone please explain to me the logic of her decision? Wouldn't she want the money from competing?
Why does she need a full year to get ready for 2019?

Come on, rojo. Use your brain. Obviously the break isn’t specifically needed for preparation. She’s taking a break for an unspecified reason, and therefore, her next focus will be preparing for 2019.
Interesting. Brittney Reese is one of the top American athletes...always brings her A game for the major contests and has a bucketful of real medals. Nothing big to contest this year?
Maybe she's on the verge of an injury and doesn't want to risk it?

It makes a whole lot of sense. She is paid, so she does not need the money. It makes sense to just train, instead of competing during an off-season, where a freak injury could occur. If she was an up and coming athlete, then her position would be strange, but she is a veteran, a world and olympic champion at that.
After the age of 30, one does not need to compete in a lot of meets throughout the year. The focus should be on championship events and keeping the body healthy.

Seems like there's usually a performance bonus structure associated with contracts, but none of us obviously know the specifics of how hers is formed. Also, you'd think that at age 30, she'd want to do everything she can to get the most out of her body before it's too late? Who knows.
As someone who is ostensibly in "the business" why don't you reach out to her, or her agent or coach, rather than encourage a lot of uninformed speculation?

He needs clicks. The site has fewer and fewer posters and most of them are on about how tough it is to be a white male. At least he's trying to talk running.

Because they burn bridges like it's going out of style.

Ha ha. No kidding. LOL

They're desperate for clicks. Even the "date an asian chick" sites aren't advertising anymore
Preggo maybe?
Pregnant?
Or, it's the one year that can have some down time before the next championship cycle starts. Keep in mind, the major championship for the 2018 season was indoors.
Will Claye (one of her training partners) has shut it down for the rest of the outdoor season too.

Also, the next 2 years are going to be brutal:
2019: USAs, World Championships
2020: World Indoor Championships, USAs, Olympics
This year should not be a focus for any runner, except for marathoners. No one should be running hard, or putting their all into having a tremendous year.
So are they just doping like crazy for a year then?
In defense of Rojo it's an obviously vague explanation. I think it's worth Rojo reaching out and trying to ask, though, and see if the answer remains as vague when pressed on it. Maybe the other source only inquired about it casually and received an equally casual response.
I'd think you'd want to compete at least once every few months. Taking off competitions until 2019 is really questionable.
She's just taking the Mahk Daddy approach.

This is, uh, par for the course?
It's not so much that this is brutal, but more like this year is "easy"

Ha ha, yeah of course - that will be the real reason...
