As long as its not refined and processed there is nothing wrong with sugar (fruit is fine to eat and it doesn't matter how much sugar it has!!). Why do so many people seem disillusioned about this?

Well, there is nothing wrong about opoids. Dopamin for one, which is released as we run. But then. Quantity.
Wrong wrong wrong! Unrefined sugar is bad too. Don't drink orange juice or eat fruit.
The people that said eat a lot of fruits were from an ignorant era. Eat only enough to get your vitamin C.

Even refined sugar can have its benefits. It's simultaneously amazing and sad how a bunch of marketers used blogs to successfully demonize carbohydrates while promoting ideas like "Paleo". At least those smart enough to actually look into the most basic levels of biochemistry will know that ample carbohydrates are an essential part of health and athletic performance.
Orange juice is refined

Not just fruits. Vegetables are literally made entirely out of sugar. Don't touch the things.
How about an ice-cold Pepsi on a hot day? ?
Sugar is like alcohol, porn, religion, etc. Some people can enjoy it and not have any problems. Others don't seem to be able to use them without taking it to the extreme to where it has a negative impact.
Everything in moderation.
