So the Letsrun correspondent was in Kenya in May 2016 and Kiprop ran 2:47 for 1200m in training (at altitude) which indicated he was in 3:28 shape or better.
Then we can make some interesting observations from his 2016 races, at Birmingham, June 5th, Kiprop was a class apart and this wasn't all out :
1 KIPROP Asbel KEN 30 JUN 1989 14 3:29.33 WL MR

9 WIGHTMAN Jake GBR 11 JUL 1994 11 3:37.53 SB
He was almost 4s quicker than all the rest and at least 3:27 Monaco shape. Then Oslo 9th June he toyed with the field, running what was basically a fartlek session or championship practice, this race took absolutely nothing out of him.

Then July 8th (???) Federico Rosa gets arrested, suddenly Kiprop loses his magical powers, In Monaco July 15th,

Amazingly, June 5th he was in 3:29 shape in Birmingham then in Monaco July 15th 3:32 a magical loss of 3 seconds (really 5s given Monaco is 2s quicker) at the very time when he should have been peaking for the Olympics. In short, he was taking a lot of Rosa special spicy sauce and when it dried up he was mid pack even with the residual benefits. This also tells us that he was using in season (June, probably May) and seeing that he was caught in November (a year later) indicates that elite dopers shoot up all year round to avoid variability in their OFF-scores. I also suspect that the Fancy Bears revelations caused him to lay off the sauce in the 2017, remember he denied the revelations circa April 2017 on twitter? His best for 2017,
