Obviously the letsrun community has a lot, but honestly, What percentage of Americans all ages can run 1 mile faster than 8:00 minutes?

Sub 8 minute mile is generally considered the threshold for elite athletes.
There are not many
Pretty much all non-disabled young males between the ages of 12 and 30 at a healthy weight could do this. So about 80% of the young male population could do this with relative ease.
If you're talking about the whole population (which includes old people, women, obese people, smokers) I would say about 35%.
LOL. Have you seen America today? About 20% tops.
I would agree but I go to a local track every day and I've seen some pretty unhealthy people rip a sub 8 in my time...
Watch this video - this guy is clipping 1:30's initially for 400s while drinking beer and being 85 pounds obese, dude ends up running an 8:08 beer mile still. Literally anyone not drinking beer should be able to do an 8:00 mile this 315 pound dude can do it while drinking. He also has another video of him running a 6:15 mile while eating a huge burrito.
Everyone who could run as a kid that wasn't fat.

I saw this video a few years ago. The guy probably has a lot of talent if he lost all that weight. Just goes to show people who think running a 6:00 mile is even good. This guy literally can do it while eating a bigA$$ burrito.

He is a former college football athlete. He is very athletic. Also is a professional eater, which helps a lot in the beer mile.
An 8 minute mile is actually a lot harder than you think for people who don't run regularly.
