Bolt would be a great wide receiver. He's got it all. I think sprinters are awesome.
Why do you say Bolt would have been a great receiver? The ability to catch a football thrown about 40 mph is way more important than height, size or speed. Do you have any reason to believe Bolt could catch a football thrown in the manner in which NFL QBs throw footballs? You said, "He's got it all" You do know many NFL pass routes have options? A receiver has one step to read how he's being covered. What makes you think Bolt could read NFL defenses?
In men's sports it's probably true. In women's sports track is probably a first choice in many instances

If he were raised in an American football culture and grew up watching and playing the sport, I see no reason to believe Bolt couldn't read NFL defenses.Physically, he's an NFL coach's dream, as several NFL coaches have stated on record. 6'5, broad shoulders, easily able to carry 210+ pounds, 9.6 speed (maybe 9.8-9.9 with the extra weight). He has loose hips and changes directions well for a man of his height. Randy Moss and Calvin Johnson didn't exactly make cuts like Julian Edelman, but their overwhelming size and athleticism made up for it. Bolt would be the same, just much, much faster.
As for catching the ball, after watching him play some celebrity basketball games, I think he's got naturally soft hands and good jumping ability. If he were raised catching footballs, he'd probably be good at catching footballs.
The list of sprinters, hurdlers, decathletes, shot putters, and javelin throwers who've played professional football is pretty long.
Maybe your just bitching to letsrun because thats who it is for you. But, the only sports I have ever done are track/xc and triathalons. I am in top 10 for my state (largest division) for both track and xc. Also, many runners who were once soccer players were still really good at soccer, but joust found a passion in running or were even better at it.
Baseball is for sissy boys.
If you're talking about PROFESSIONAL athletes, I see your point. I mean, if you could make $10 million a year in the NFL or $100,00 a year in track, it would be hard to choose track. But for high school athletes, it's a little ridiculous to suggest that the majority of track athletes just aren't good enough athletes at any other ball sports. I mean, I had the option to play varsity baseball, volleyball, lacrosse or tennis in the spring in high school. I chose track. I had the option to play varsity football or soccer in the fall. I chose cross country. Some people, I know this is shocking, like the individual sports better than the ball sports.
Kids turn to Team sports because they don't want to be blamed for losing. It wasn't my fault, I had x hits, or baskets, or saves or what ever team sport stat you like to insert. Everyone gets cheered for eventually in a team sport, (yeah you kicked the ball). But true Athletes want to earn it. We choose T&F because their are no coach's opinion or favorites. You earn your position on the track or field. There is no hiding or matching up with a weak player on the other team to make yourself look good.
Or there are just lazy. What a football play takes 10seconds then rest for 25, Basketball is down to 24 seconds of effort if that, and baseballers have to run an astounding 90 feet, even soccer players get to stand around a lot. There are no timeouts or second chances in T&F.
I have the biggest laugh about your comment on throwers, as all of them to succeed have to perfect their skills and it takes 10x more athletic ability to be a thrower then an O and D lineman. Aren't they just the fat kids that you couldn't push out of the way.
Track and Field where the real Athletes Perform!!!

Nah, the money is in Tennis and Golf.
Still a lot of comparisons are the same with women. The HJ women can't make it in basketball or volleyball etc.
This is so funny.. I was a 54.9 high school quarter miler.. track scholarship offered was peanuts compared to basketball in 1984. Full vs 4,000 bucks!
So I played basketball and had a great experience. Track was and is still my favorite.
War wounds in basketball were terrible.. scratches, bruises all over my body, a broken nose, knee injuries & sprained ankles..
I can still shoot 3’s at 52... but track was way more fun and my high school team is forever etched in my memories.. summer AAU was also fun, way better than any basketball team I ever played on. D1 basketball gave me an education!
Running is the base for all team sports . there is no such thing as to much speed or endurance. Its the oldest sport.

If you end up a good place and perhaps learn you’re great at something, who cares how you got there?
This is worth quoting for emphasis.
Track is not a place for just anyone who cannot hack a sport. In fact, very few people at all go into track because it is theoretically impossible for many to do well. There is much greater opportunity to feel good about your performance in a sport/game. In track, you have to be right at the top to feel very good about your performance and most people do not have the confidence required to risk embarrassment. I don't consider a sport/game to be "athletics". Only individual athletics are athletics. Sports are just games where you sometimes use your body, but they do not test your body to its limits like an athletic event does.
Is this Gary Glitter, the pedo from the UK?? Yikes! You got issues man. No wonder you're not on a team sport, who would want to associate with a kiddy fiddler. I didn't know you had internet access from your prison cell in the UK. I bet you didn't have that while doing time in Vietnam.
Probably true for some people.
For me, I hated relying on others to pick up the slack or not doing their part.
I like the individual aspect of track. It's exciting.
I always hated football, hated playing basketball (though oddly, I liked playing soccer.) I hated standing around waiting to play. I liked moving.

Too bad you couldn't do a real sport but the running and swimming are good for keeping fit.
I didn't say that athletes in real sports weren't good. It's just that they had reached that pinnacle of what they could attain in their chosen sport. Once that avenue closed, they opted for the "no cut" type of sport where they could still be on a team like T&F and XC.

Who would give any scholarship to a kid running a 54.9 400m? Even a 51 wouldn't get a thing. I call BS on the track scholarship.
I’m a female.. in 1984 ... 54.9 was a very good time.
At 6’1 .. I played post guard and forward.. how many female athletes can run a 54.9.. not bad for a 17 year old female.
Most track runners only eat plant protein (vegans) or drink soy milk (soyboys). No wonder playing football causes head injuries...
