The cramping thing is the bane of my existence, and that is mostly because I really just can't figure it out and I am not sure anyone really knows what is going on.
I am aware of the dangers of studies of 1, but my experience suggests to me that it is not muscle fatigue that is causing my cramping. I experienced my first bout of cramping of the training cycle last Friday after my 15 miler. It was warm and humid, and I sweated out 7-8 pounds of fluids during the run. That came after two days of 8 miles of running and 21 minutes of elliptical time. Of course, I am building up aerobic volume fairly quickly after a layoff, so it might make sense to assume that it is muscle fatigue resulting from the cumulative effect of about 4.33 hours of aerobic activity in three days. But while my calves did cramp, my lats and pecs cramped even worse, and I was also getting quad cramping. I just cannot see why my pecs and lats would cramp so badly if muscle fatigue were the primary culprit.
It is going to be a long summer.
I’ve only run 3 half marathons:
Nov. 2014 - 1:23
Nov. 2017 - 1:19
Jan. 2018 - 1:16
Between the 1:23 and 1:19 I split 1:22 on the back half of a full in Oct. 2017 if you want to count that.
Smoove that’s impressive. I can’t believe you’re up to 15 miles already in training. I got injured this past February and my long run is still only 8 miles. I’m probably overly cautious. I sympathize with you in regards to the heat living here in Miami, Fla.

Them fightin' words HAHA!
So the current spread is 1:16 vs 1:23, that makes it 7 mins... I do agree that 4 is probably the correct over/under threshold....
I'm confident RRR can dip under 1:20 (that's only 6:06 pace) in 7 months
AJ- what are your HM progression times?
I'm with you. Maybe RRR can pull a 1:19 and AJ will feel the pressure and stay at the 1:15 ahah.
Honestly, it is a little bit of a faster build up than I would like, but given that my next goal race is a marathon that is a little over 16 weeks away, I feel like I needed to push the envelope a little on that front. Plus, while I lost about 2 months of quality training, I was up at 20+ miles as recently as mid-March, so I feel like I had enough underlying training to justify taking the risk of a fairly quick build up.
1:23 is RRR's most recent half but I'm pretty sure it's not his PR half. Maybe 1:21? Probably not worth it for me to respond. He can defend himself if that's the case.
1:22:30 is the PR.. and I was not even training to run a half.. I have def under performed
I will run 1:19 in October on a hilly course
and 1:18 in November on a hilly course
and In Houston ... faster yet.
BUT first order of business is a 16:4x 5k
R3- I’m not making any picks, but, assuming conditions like last year, you’re going to need at least a 1:14 vs AJ. Anything’s possible though- you have time.
Smoove- come race Philly instead. I need a pace team.
You're going to eat Lightening and crap Thunder.
SLO - Glad you responded as I have a bone to pick about you providing aid and comfort to the enemy... to a guy who SNUBBED You for dinner before the Houston race last year. And takes sides against R3 who had a nice dinner and convo with the SLO man.. and the mojo from talking to RRR ( and possibly some Smoove MOJO as well) helped you along to an amazing race in Houston.
When is this 16:4X 5K going down?!?1
ha! truth. good times. But im the one not making any picks! ...what can I say though, AJ is a lanky runner like myself, so I do feel a need to tryto help out the cause. Plus you’ve got Pappy feeding you these boss-level plans.
J - Sometime this fall. My only shots at fast times with competition on a certified course are pretty slim.
SLO - You are a smooth talker kind of like Lando. And yes I believe Pappy is going to work me like a part time job this fall. Just this base phase is making me feel strong and lean, am sure he has some master level overall plan. I Just look at the plan and go try to perform it that day. RRR Likes doing more and thinking less
Predicting PR times in races planned for months away should result in the poster being put in the penalty box.

Really reflects poor coaching...

Ouch. Cold Shot.
Didn't stone say he was going to run 2:47 in January and then do it in April? I don't think there should be a penalty box if you can show up with receipts. Maybe a penalty after a failed declaration comes to fruition.
BTW Stone, thanks for posting your autobiography earlier in the week. A couple questions if you have time: what about Hanson's made you decide to move on and try other things? Did you feel like you were stagnating or the Hanson's work was missing something on its own, or did something about Canova just appeal to you that much more? (Maybe the greater flexibility of the schedule?) Am I reading it correctly that you followed Hanson's for 1 marathon cycle and one half cycle before modifying a bit?

Haha, I couldn't resist.
All this half marathon talk has me wanting to hop in half that's coming up in August.
