Hey everybody!
Me:
42, M, 5'8, 130-something
Old PRs (from my 20s): 16:30s/34:20s/1:19s/2:44
Current goals: Summer base, fall HM
My week:
M 1:08 Robert's Hill trails easy / 17 shuffle. Cool, light rain, felt very comfortable.
T 1:18 trolley track plus 4 x strides, hill springs, hill sprints / 24 shuffle. Early, cool, felt fine though adjusting to the early start.
W 1:20 Fitzy's trails easy / 21 shuffle. Early, pleasant, felt pretty good.
Th 39 with 4k around the park in 15:07 (3:52, 3:47, 3:48, 3:40), plus 4 x strides coming back / 21 shuffle. Mid-day, warm, a little short on time so opted for a quick workout. Not feeling great - kind of dragging with allergies this week - but went ok.
F 1:48 downtown and around the farm trails / 21 shuffle. Warmer, feeling draggy again, but got a little longer run in and the legs seemed to be holding up ok.
Sat 24 easy. Decided it was time for a recovery day.
Sun 2:17 Sawmill Hills trails - down the brook to Jeep Eater and back. Early, nice and cool, felt pretty good. Nice to bounce back after struggling a little over the last few days.
Total 10:18 (8:34 running, 1:44 shuffle)
This was kind of a "down" week, partly deliberately and partly not. Seems to have been the theme of the week for a number of people...
Comments:
Congrats again to Allen and RRR. RRR: Nice week from you (and Pappy...). Really like the balance in your training.
DB: Regarding the 10k: sounds like you're not that far away, really.
Coach Jeff and consistency: A couple more nice, steady weeks from you guys. Looks like you handled your "down" weeks a little more gracefully than I did...
TDR: Summer is coming!
slo-twitch: And a little way down the road, it will be satisfying to look back and see that your 5k pace from June is your (?) pace for (?)...
R4F: Sounds like you're making progress. Smart thought on the day off.
OR: Strong week. Enjoy your off day!
AJ: Those are some tough workouts, that one on Friday especially.
SI: Remember that you're not that far out from your marathon, so your body may still be somewhat in recovery mode.
pewow: Looks like the training is going well. Good luck with the start of your racing season!
Sub 6: Good to hear you're making progress with the hamstring.
Pappy: Two miles is better than no miles. Hope you're making progress toward being able to run more comfortably.
Smoove: Solid week. Seems like the comeback is going smoothly so far. How are the form/cadence tweaks coming along?
Epimetheus: Sorry to hear about the issue you've run into. Am I correct in understanding that the pain seems to be at the top of the butt (where it meets the back) and not at the bottom (where it meets the hamstring)?
If that's the case, it doesn't sound like my experience of piriformis/sciatica (which focused more where the hamstring meets the butt). It sounds a little more like my experience with SI joint issues (sacroiliac), particularly what you said about pain when turning/walking the wrong way. (Just noticed that OR said something along the same lines.) Whatever it is, take care of yourself, and I hope you get it figured out soon.
