WHY ARE YOU HOMESHOOLING?
I’m a teacher and parents don’t have the necessary skills or talents like myself. You’re severely damaging your child’s future and ability to acquire knowledge by keeping them out of public schools.
Please don’t homeschool
They can in PA (or at least they could 15 years ago when I was in high school). There may be different rules in other states, though.
Why not just call the athletic office at the school and ask them?
Most states allow homeschoolers to participate in athletics at the HS of the district they reside in. My son was homeschooled and participated in two sports at the local HS for about 3 years.
Parent(s) permission, emergency #s, a physical, etc. must all be provided to the school before the start of practice. Academic eligibility is another requirement - the homeschooler will have to meet the same eligibility requirements as the student-athletes on the team. That meant for us, per the district's policy, a curriculum & weekly grades provided to the AD.
Parents are homeschooling because they're fed up with the VIOLENCE!
Kids can't even attend public school anymore without the risk of getting SLAUGHTERED like cattle!
Can the government guarantee every child's safety? Well...can they? ?
And all these school resourse officers in the schools these days and they still can't prevent innocent children from being SLAUGHTERED like cattle!!!

That may be true. After the Florida shooting I constantly reminded my students that so long as the 2nd amendment exists they were at risk in this country but it created an opportunity to come together and fight against the NRA.
I gave out extra credit to kids who called or emailed their congresspersons both in the local and federal level.
Which is why there’s another reason to keep your kids in a public school: you won’t have collective organization to help better society if you Home school.
Well since boys can run as girls why shouldn't you be allowed to run too.

I hope your response is a joke.
Either way they didn't ask about whether or not they ought to be homeschooled and your response detracts from their question.
I’m sorry but homeschooling is ridiculous and parents who remove their kids from school should be shamed.
And it is an issue when kids grow up without being taught properly by a trained educator like myself or others.

Thank you for posting this. If they're going to allow boys to run as girls why would they prevent anybody from participating?

It may depend on what state you live in. You can in Massachusetts. You'd run for the school that you'd attend if you weren't home schooling. The AD at whatever school you'd be going to should know the answer as would someone at your state's Department of Education.

Lots of people go to school with trained educators and end up as screw ups. Weren't all the school shooters taught by trained educators like yourself.
Education these days seems to be using an out-dated, factory type model where the interest is more on teaching to pass tests than to learn and develop a love of learning. Example: my daughter's social studies teacher told her that Operation Sea Lion failed. That was all my kid needed to know. She was not told what Sea Lion was or why it failed. This has happened a lot.

Teachers need to be highly trained because they have to know how to deal with kids who are dumb and/or poorly behaved. Any reasonably bright adult can figure out how to teach a motivated kid who isn't dumb as a stump. So a parent of a homeschool kid really doesn't need to be an expert on education the way that the glorified babysitters who staff our public schools do.
I think most states will allow you to run for the high school that is in your school district. At my school there are a few home school people that participate in clubs, sports, and activities. I would talk to your school district and see what they can do

Maybe they don't want their kids to be shot, maybe they don't want their children indoctrinated with leftist falsehoods, maybe they don't want their kids taught about anal sex during sex education. Every parent should make their own decision.

So it's because the parents are idiots. Thanks for clearing that up.

By chance are you a graduate of Evergreen State College?
In Washington State you may compete for your "neighborhood" school, that is the one you would go to, which sounds like what you are asking. You may not (well supposedly not) transfer to another school. A number of FB and BB programs bend that rule.
Anyway, you might have to prove some sort of progress. Two of my kids did running start at the local community college for the last year or so of their high school careers and competed at a high level. The athletic director will need to know. My kids had to have the college send grades during the "grade check" windows.
In Washington, the state will pay the tuition for running start for your junior and senior years. You can actually go for freshman and sophomore years as well, you just need to pay for it yourself.
Are there any electives at your school you like, such as music, art, wood shop etc? It is possible to just attend those courses and do the rest at home. You have the right to access each of those programs as well as the athletic department.
Public school is not for everyone. As a secondary educator I see that every day. You are the expert on you, and know what works best. My kids did a combination of public school, online courses and like I said running start.
The ding bat trophy wife two houses down the street whom didn't attend college is homeschooling her five kids. Time will tell. Her daughter runs for the local high school.
I am a teacher and homeschool my kids. Well, my wife does. Honestly, being in public education is one of the reasons we homeschool. I actually know quite a few teachers who homeschool their kids.
Oh, and my sophmore homeschooled daughter got a 31 on the ACT. And she is taking honors college classes at our local university. Homeschooling is great!
Oh, to answer the OP, here in Ohio homeschoolers can play sports for their local district. My boys play basketball for our local public school.
