Pretty sick for an 800 guy.
And according to the A&M website, "Dixon recorded the fastest split ever by a Texas A&M sprinter, topping the 43.96 (semi) and 43.99 (final) set by Fred Kerley in last year's NCAA meet."

Just watched the interview.
Dixon is obviously a super talent and has some monstrous speed to compliment that. After seeing him run 45.2 earlier this season, I was almost certain he would end up running under 1:44 this year. He looked very comfortable gong through in 51 yesterday, but I’m not sure what happened after that... maybe too much speed and not enough specific pace training. That aside, it was nice to see that he managed to finish modestly, even after taking the race out. His interview was even more enlightening and showed that this kid has a competitor and has a good head on his shoulders, not many people are able to be so objective immediately after an off race AND stay hungry for the next race after.
Best of luck to him, and hopefully we’ll see a 1:43 from him next year.
After that split, he might have to consider the open 4 as his event. What a monster talent. That is Emmanuel Korir like 400 speed in an 800m runner. He has a world of potential and you have to think he'll set down a 1:43 at some point in the future, or low 44 if he changes events.

Agreed, that 400 split suggests that he’could probably run somewhere in the 44 mid range right now, which would be a lot more impressive than his 1:45. If I recall correctly, Dixon trains with Donavan Brazier regularly. I’m not sure where Brazier has been, but if that’s true, it would make you wonder what type of speed he has comparatively and also the same for each of their 800s. I doubt Dixon could run a sub 4 mile, so maybe he’s more on the speed end, while Brazier is more endurance oriented.
Dixon is a huge talent. I think he mentions he just got nervous. He will be fine. He also ran 16:10 in XC in high school so he does have great range.

Only a 16:10 5k? Ugh, hobby jogger. Almost everyone on LRC runs in the 14s, at least in the 15s.
Am I living in the twilight zone? The Boston Marathon weather was terrible!
Is there a rule against attaching a helium balloon to yourself while running a road race?
How rare is it to run a sub 5 minute mile AND bench press 225?
