Miss America and Miss USA are different competitions.

Miss America has long said it was about intellect and other stuff so removing this falls in line. Plus there was always something a little odd about women in bikinis and high heels parading around on a stage.

Specifically, what is odd?

The fact the bikini stays on the whole time. Where I'm from, when a girl comes out in underwear and high heels, the clothing comes off, at least for the second dance
I changed the title of this thread to make it more descriptive.
They are also dropping the evening gown competition and said, "We will no longer judge our candidates on their outward physical appearance. That's huge."
Wasn't the whole thing largely a beauty pageant? I can see in today's age the rationale for dropping the swimsuit competition, but if they're not going to judge people on their appearance what exactly is this now?
I bet they don't have blind resume submissions and interviews behind a black screen where we don't see the face of the people or their weight. That would be the legit way to make it not about looks.
Piers Morgan was pretty critical:
“I’m afraid the harsh reality is that nobody’s going to watch a beauty pageant to see an assortment of ugly, 250 lb. contestants giving their views on world peace. Period”
Boo. Extremely unfair to Kimberley Jade. I had her in the futures book:

Let's face it, all women are judged based on their outward physical appearance. They can claim otherwise and modify the format, but it's a lie.
that pic is faker than her boobs
There's still the Miss Ukraine Pageant
Ah, so they won't be judged based on their physical beauty, nor is it a test of knowledge. So now they are simply appealing to the whims of the chosen judges. I'd be more interested in seeing the process by which the judges are chosen, particularly if it involved break dancing.
If appearances are unimportant then the winners shouldn't have to put in appearances at a regular college--the scholarships should just be to the University of Phoenix.

The Rhodes Scholarship competition with baton-twirling.

this means, potentially, Lena Dunham or Amy Schumer as Miss America? That's it, I'm moving to Venezuela.
Got a lady in my state that is about 5'5", 300 lbs. In a wheel chair, and has only one leg. Looks kind of like a gorilla in a wheel chair. She is nice though. She has all kinds of medical problems. She is a blazing liberal though. Does charity stuff. Goes to church. She is gonna make a run for our state beauty contest and then Miss America. If she wins we can all ..what feel good about ourselves? If we or some judge does not vote for her for the win...do we throw him out of his career position? Maybe criminally charge him and put him in jail. Maybe we cut his head off. Just cancel the Miss America, get rid of it.

Or perhaps physics, cooking, cleaning and blowjobs.
Gretchen Carlson, a Miss America herself, made the decision to not judge this beauty contest by appearsnce. Rather odd since Carlson's entire career was built on her appearance.
You can't make this stuff up, folks.

Yeah, but have you seen Carlson's appearance lately. Now that age is having its way with her physical appearance, she's no longer in favor of judging on looks?
My question is will Mr. Olympia competitions no longer have a speedo pose off competition?
