Pretty awesome for a sophomore to run 8:56, but it's crazy to do it and win the state meet.
That's pretty cool. Get him in a 5k soon-- see how he compares to Yong Sung Leal, who also won 3200 state championships as a sophomore.
He should ditch the spikes and put on some race galoshes immediately. The ultras are calling! Mud, water, barbed wire, electric fences, knee dragging ultras!
More impressive a Sophomore long jumped 24-11.75

We should all be talking about Mcintosh girl who went 2:05!
8:56 as a soph is impressive, but closing in 57 seconds is really legit

No, he jumped 25-1 on his final jump to tie for the national lead.
And, Kudos to Strangio.....
Going in with the #22 seed and winning the whole deal is pretty impressive. He didn't even win his section meet last week.
Last name sounds familiar. Was his dad a fast guy in the 80s?
The CA state meet now is a slow, tactical affair? Would expect many sub 8:50 times out there.

CA boys field is weak this year, especially compared to girls. That's one of the reasons a soph could win, plus temp in upper 80s.

8:56 in upper 80s is no joke!
They went through the first 160 in 4:34
Meant the first 1600 in 4:34

If last lap was 57, then they stayed pretty much dead on that pace through seven laps.
4:34/4:22 with a 57 last lap for 8:56 in the upper 80s is very impressive for a sophomore.

And then he won the long jump too.
