Strong showing for North Central at Illinois State, particularly at the top:

Patel and Norvell go 1-2. 1-5 split 1:11 with Baldonado #5 (8th at nationals last year). Interestingly, North Central only sent 5 to the meet, and Hird didn't run.
This team clearly would have been historically dominant with a healthy Hird and Borowsky, but I think there may be just enough questions to keep it interesting (at least temporarily). Their depth may need to come from younger guys, but there is some talent there (including the freshman who ran low 9:20s for 3200).
Grant O Connor AND Sean O Connor still haven't shown up to any races, 3 weeks into the year. Is he injured or just being held back till Pre-Regionals?
The O'Connors will open up at the Purple Valley Classic on September 22nd. Should be a great race for RPI with the NESCAC schools.
Flotrack ranked UW-Eau Claire's men 10th in the nation. Umm...
Questionable, but Carleton is ranked 9th, and they were walked on this weekend.
How is nobody talking about unranked St. Olaf being only six points back from #2 UWL! Things are getting interesting. There looks to be a lot of options for the podium this year, perhaps even the win.
What the hell happened at the Augsburg Invitational? Was the course like 400m to long??? Why did everyone run so damn slow? Carleton's top guys were running almost 30min, over 3min slower than last week... Honestly thought it was a JV race at first. If this is legit, none of these teams should be particular happy with this race!

not to mention they clapped Carleton hard (_(_)
Its simple... There were a lot of teams tempoing this weekend. Carlton had a solid tempo this weekend, even with the tempo they had all of their runners finish within the top 300 of the race! WashU had an impressive jog as they all held hands across the line at 25:20ish (Very easy). North Central had the most impressive tempo of the weekend - they did 1 minute sprints on and then 1 minutes walking. Patell still ran fast enough to get the tempo win - Very Nice!
Augsburg Invite was hot, humid with a high of 90
Sam Brunnette will mop the floor with the O’Connors
Yes, Augsburg was very hot and humid ( I was there- 26 runners dropped out during the race). It says something if Flotrack's #10 individual won it with a 26:45. I also hear that according to some of the runners, the course measured 5.1 miles!
Carleton didn't run their #1, #2, and #4 runners. They will run at Eau Claire in two weeks, so we'll see where they are really at.
Andy Reischling of Pomona 24:21 pretty early on. Anyone know anything about this course?
Did you see some bum made a separate post about Brunnette?
Brunnette is decent with a 24:30 however, Umass is definitely a short course, and it does not compare well to
the xc courses outside of NewEngland.

Also Bijan Mazaheri continues to roll in grad school. Looks like he found a strong running club to train with. Go Bijan!

I love watching people try to hype up their own teammates (or themselves) multiple different times on a message board

The race was all uphill and he was wearing trainers. With Bijan running that fast this early, especially on legs with 100+ miles/week, I'd pencil him in for a top 3 at nationals. Top 2 if he wears spikes. If LaMere gets injured, Bijan will likely win. Peter Hale is looking strong, and with a healthy Austin Anderson and Ben Decker, Williams will be looking to challenge WashU for the title.
My brother, Ben, goes to Tufts. He has been doing box jumps all summer and can nearly dunk a tennis ball. I'd pencil him in to contend for the win against Lamere and Hale.
If Oshkosh is short this year, watch out for Ben's teammate, Jamie Norton. He runs the mile in 4:06.
