bump, don't leave us hanging op
Yeah, what were the results please????
I guess this was a fail. Bummer
I don't mean to sound pessimistic but I don't think it's going to happen within two weeks. Actually let me rephrase that.. it won't happen.
He needs to build up to being able to run 1.5 miles non stop at any pace first.
When he can you can set a secondary goal of hitting it in 15 minutes, then a week after 14:30, week after 14:00 and so on.
Since he can only run 3 laps at 10 minute mile pace, he should do some repeat work at a faster pace. E.g.: run one lap at 9 minute mile pace, rest for a minute or two, run another lap at 9 minute mile pace and build up to doing that 8 times. Once he has built up the ability to do this, soften the recovery times in between laps.
Adjust these paces as fitness improves. You might find in a few weeks he is capable of doing this workout at 8.5 minute mile pace instead of 9.
Do this 2-3 times a week. For the other 3 days a week, he needs to be running 3 miles every day at least. You can't build endurance for the 1.5 mile without running further than 1.5 miles on a routine basis.
I predict that his 1.5 mile time right at this moment would be about 17-18 minutes. I think it would take 3 months of doing this training to get him down to 12:xx.
Lifestyle outside of training is also key. Lots of vitamins via diet e.g. Meat, fruit salad, healthy fats such as olive oil, rice, veg, lots of rest, adequate hydration. No smoking, no drinking. Sounds harsh but this is what it takes.
I agree with what you said Rez. Also, I find it very hard to believe that he can't pass this if he is 5'10.5" 175 lbs, hitting the gym a few times a week and playing basketball regularly. I assume this guy is in his 20's also.
I don't mean to sound rude, but it's unbelievable to me that a guy with these dimensions and background can't pass this test.
