It looks like this upcoming season will be an insane battle for the podium in Texas for the 6A boys.. You have some favorites such as Flower Mound, and the woodlands and southlake always manage to show up for the state meet and beyond. Here is an analysis of the potential podium contenders for next season.
Flower Mound - Team Average - 15:47.42
Coming back with two guys sub 15, it seems that flower mound are the clear favorite for the team win. As well as their top 2 being the two top guys in the entire race, so flower mound could come home with quite the medal haul. The worry for them is their depth, they need their 3-5 to be closer to the 15:50s but in all honesty since they are so close it should not be too difficult for them to get a win... Given that everything is normal.
Klein - Team Average - 16:02.36
Pack running is no problem for Klein and they came out of nowhere last year to place pretty highly at the state meet. However, if they want to THINK about challenging Flower Mound then their top guys need to place higher than 28 and 29. Good news is next year they will have ONE senior in their squad and the rest are juniors and sophomores, so the future is bright for them.
Smithson Valley - Team Average - 16:00.93
The let down for this smithson valley team will be their spread, from 1-7 there is a two minute difference and that can not help you when competing for a championship, their district course was very short so they dropped some very fast times. If they can actually run the times they ran at district then they could challenge flower mound for the win, however a podium finish would suffice for the Comal team.
Wylie - Team Average - 16:05.80
As the final team really close in the running for a podium, Wylie was a virtual unknown team last year until the regional meet when they knocked out Hebron. Improvement is the only thing to come, as in their top 5 their numbers 3 and 4 are brothers who last season was their first. While the top two next year will be a junior and a sophomore. Wylie could potentially even challenge for the gold at this meet, if their improvement continues as it has.
