I don't understand why the only Diamond League meet in the US is in the middle of fvcking nowhere. I live in SF, it's just as expensive to fly to Eugene (or Portland and rent a car) as it is to fly to NYC or Boston. Or it's a 15 hour train ride that costs just as much. What the hell?
Tracktown, my little cheap, entitled one. There's a bit of history there, as well as a little company called Nike from the area that puts it on.
I don't think you get to call me cheap and entitled, I think you have to pick one. I'm not willing to drop $400-500 on flight tickets + hotel room to visit some podunk town in Oregon. I might be willing to pay that much to visit an actual city with other things to do (and a finite chance of friends/family to meet up with).
And what do I, as a visitor to Eugene, gain from Nike being in Beaverton? Or are you assuming that most of the people who watch the meet stay in Portland and drive 2 hours each way to watch it?
I don't understand how hard-core a fan you'd have to be for this to make sense. I post on a running website during the day and go to collegiate track meets when the competition quality is high, and I'm not even a student (I graduated a long time ago). Who is your target audience?
