She will hit 4:10 this year and go for sub 4 next year. She is young and talented. This will be like starting over for her so expect great things in the future.

Mary Cain is done. She was only world class because of Salazar's drugs. Once the ProPublica/BBC piece came out, she realized what they were doing was wrong and moved on from running.

If we do not see the issue with passive-aggressive threads like this, then we are in more trouble than we thought.
Mary Cain was, at the time, a blossoming athlete. But imagine the travesty of letsrun and some of its hawks and cultures to not let her become a woman on her terms.
She may very well get to the level she was. She may not.
This was not an arrogant girl who is getting pressure regarding behaviors and comments she made in the past. This is an unnatural obsession with bashing someone who did not deserve it in the first place.
I don't see why we can't appreciate what Cain was and leave it at that.
Please, for your sakes, and the sakes of others like you, please see the problem inherent in this fixation on Mary Cain.
Hey, Mary, the shmoes of the universe will always be there with their dirt on LetsRun, as long as the broshmoes allow them to be. You're OK, and we hope you are happy with your sport, despite mean cusses with an outlet for their barbs. Stoppit Smith said it well.
Cain is still collecting from Nike. Nike has been informed that they will keep paying or Cain will divulge the truth. Nike isnt going to let that happen
Nice Post!
Although I would not say she has had bad luck, she has had better luck than most; long-term continued good luck is never a guarantee in any endeavor.

Not really, Sydney is getting better at the age Mary was digressing.

I feel like Salazar absolutely ran her to the ground. I remember seeing a WOW on Flotrack where she busted a lot of hard intervals after a indoor mile JR. She was throwing up and all types of stuff afterwards. I don't think she was even 19 yet. Anyways, her career started to come back quite a bit after that...
I just think some of his quality was fine for an established pro like Rupp, but way too much for a bright young talent
If you want to blame every coach when a young female does not succeed into adulthood, then you would have a long list of bad coaches. I would be on that list as well.

Maybe it’s because you’re a bad coach???

Hype wise, both were young fast and Records and Gold Medals were expected, McLaughlin is already at a higher level on the World scene than Cain ever got to, but distance runners tend to peak later, McLaughlin is incredible I kind of expect her to break the 400 Hurdles World Record as soon as NCAA in a couple of weeks and go sub 52 THIS SEASON, Cain though never at that level had Track and Field News and Letsrun message boards having constant threads on her with expectations of greatness, Letsrun would be biased in favor of a distance runner over a sprinter hurdler, but even TrackandField news posters were going wild with predictions and expectations of Cain's potential.

Well, the 400 hurdles isn't even close to being as competitive on the world scene as the 1500m is.

I think the people running this site don't have good English. They don't know what super hot means. If anything was super hot recently, it was Bekele's 10 miles. If I run this site, it would be so much better.
yeah but that ain't saying much

I think regressing is the word you were looking for there.

Agreed, and she could easily go 4:08 or 4:09 this year which would be an excellent result, and then push for closer to world leading times next season.

I feel like if she stopped running right now that she's still had a great running career.
You need to bone up on your grammar before making such a claim.
You obviously haven't been following McLaughlin this season. Smart choices will take one far in life.
I don’t see any similarities to Mcglaughlin. She is at the top of her game and in college. She looks like a world champ. Cain could get there but it would take extreme dieting, sleep, weights, and training. She just doesn’t look like Simpson or Coburn in terms of physique or form. Those 2 are skin and bones with a minor layer of muscle in between. That is very hard to achieve.

She is a sweet lady, which is unusual at her level. Not just nice, but genuinely sweet. I wonder if some of you actually ever feel bad about some of the things you say about her or if it has become so ingrained in your lives that you don't even know that it's bad. Also, while we are discussing this, have you actually ever reached the level of Ms. Cain to merit the type of flak you are giving her in bulk? Feel insulted? Good. Your skills don't merit your rhetoric. They never did; they never will. Now what?
