Space just appears black because there's no matter there for light to reflect off of.. why are scientists so convinced that this empty space is some sort of mysterious unknown energy?

they watch too much star trek and believe in things like subspace manifold envelope frequency modulators etc etc
probably think they attenuate the dark energy with a multiphasic harmonic plasma generator
Another thing I was wondering, is our Galaxy basically a huge toilet? I mean it looks like a big swirly and there's supposedly a big blackhole at the center sucking everything into it.. one day will our whole Galaxy just be flushed down the shietter (via blackhole) or are we safe from it's gravitational pull?
