I'm living pretty much downtown Indianapolis (nortside, south of 65), and Im curious where people run. I'm sure there's not a ton if people on here from Indy, but if anyone could direct me toward the best places to run, that'd be great.

I'm from Indy and I run downtown all the time. There are a few "trails" to check out in the downtownish area. The first 4 at least touch on downtown (or the edge of it). The next 3 are still found squarely in the city. If you want to venture out further, you can check out Eagle Creek Park on the northwest side, as well as Fort Benjamin Harrison on the northeast side. Great trail running.
Are you new to the city?
1. The Cultural Trail

2. Canal Walk

3. White River Wapahani Trail
4. The Monon Trail
It runs 18 miles, starting at 10th Street (where it meets the Cultural Trail) and ends at Highway 32 in Westfield.

5. Fall Creek Trail
It runs along Fall Creek for about 7 miles and ends up on the north east side.
6. Pleasant Run Trail
This runs from Ellenberger Park on the east side of the city to the south side ending at Garfield Park.
7. Central Canal Towpath

I'm from the general Indy area, I just haven't spent a ton of time downtown, especially not training
Also, if there's anyone in the area who wants someone to train with I'll be available

Indianapolis is the second fastest city in America. Nobody is running.

PS: Not sure if the other poster listed the White River Trail (it has a few other names), but give it a try:

Surprised the second fastest city doesn't use it's talents more.

Whoops, that was supposed to say fattest. Definitely not the fastest, unless we’re talking Indy Cars.

There are people here from Indy, they pop up. I live of a bit of north of you on the north side of 65.
I think some of the other posters mentioned some good places to run. If you want to get in a lot of miles, you have to get a bit creative with where you run. It's kinda hard to explain here, you just have to explore a bit yourself out of downtown.
Indy Runners has a Wednesday night group run at 6 pm at the Antheneum. Most people are not that fast if you typically run under 8 minutes per mile, but it's a good group of people. I try to show up there regularly, but I have a stress fracture right now and will not be running for a few more weeks.

What's your usual training pace/recent race times/goal times?

The gate to the IUPUI track facility is usually open during the day. It's a great place to get a track workout in. I've never had any trouble getting in, and I've never been approached and told I shouldn't be there. Probably run there 30 times or more in the last couple years.
I live in Indy as well but rarely venture downtown. I live north near 86th street, and use the Monon.

I'm usually around 7-glat on easy runs. Just ran sub 4 for 1500. Training for cross

Too fast for me. I’m more like 8 flat for easy runs. Hoping to run 5:20 in the Monumental Mile next month.
I'll be traveling to Indianapolis this summer and wondered if there are any non-asphalt, soft surface trails that you folks would recommend in the vicinity of the city? Will have a car so can drive to a trailhead.
Eagle Creek Park is pretty cool. And then deer don’t give a F that you are there. I remember some runs there where the deer just kinda eye ball you not really caring you are like 10 feet away lol.
Alan
Canal Towpath, Eagle Creek, Southwestway Park, and Fort Harrison.
There are also a number of paved buke paths you can run on.

I can't keep up with you on the short stuff, but when I am in good shape, I have trouble going slower than 7 min/mile, I have to force myself. But I'm out for at least a couple more weeks with a stress fracture, so I can't help at the moment.

Hats off to my dad. He just ran a 1:42 Half Marathon and turns 75 in 2 months!
