So just some background:
17 year old male, Junior in HS.
XC, Indoor Track, and Outdoor.
Ran about 35mpw over the summer.
XC this year I went from 18:47 to 17:49 in 5k.
Indoor I went from 11:13 to 10:48 in 3200, 4:57 to 4:52 in 1600..
This year in outdoor, I haven't broken 5 minutes in the 1600, and have one race left.
After taking two weeks off due to injury, I ran 5:04 in my first race back with no training, and now I have ran faster than that twice. Being that we do about 3-4 workouts and races combined per week, Im thinking I was burnt out.
(Example: Monday tempo, Tuesday Track workout, Thursday track workout, Saturday race)...
^^ It is very typical for us to do Monday workout, wednesday workout, friday race (which I don't think is enough recovery).
Anyway, I feel like I'm burnt out because I can't even run a pr right now (am consistently running 5:02-5:12 for about 8 races in a row. My legs feel dead everytime I run.
I read somewhere that Resting Heart Rate can be an indicator of whether or not you are burnt out.
My resting heart rate during XC was about 55-65bpm, whereas now it is about 45-48bmp. According to this method, I am NOT burnt out. Anyone know if this is legit or not?
