3:39 55 high last lap!
nice.
Dear Flotrack,
How freaking hard is it to say the last name correctly? You said "Engel-britsen" about 15 times. Wtf? Your partner announcer said it correctly right on front of you.

Meh, no one is in shape and raring to go. Long seasons.
However, Ingy has TALENT.
Was his older brother on the suspicious list that got leaked last year?
EPO doesn't work on lowlanders.

I said just yesterday that young guys like Jakob will be training twice as hard now that East Africans are facing the choice - continue adding 2 seconds per lap with EPO or get thrown out the sport.
Willis himself tweeted after the bust that in his career he had to sit down with his team and almost come up with a totally different mind frame and world view to maintain the motivation to train when he knew he was competing with cheats.
Jakob's timing is perfect. Greatest non-African talent since Webb or Cram, and entering the seniors just as the sport is getting cleaned up.
African supremacists just got hit by a double whammy in the space of 48 hours. Kiprop's bust and now Jakob proving he's the real deal.

They're retards. They mangle Spanish names, easily pronounceable, very phonetic Spanish names, all the time.

The political forces behind allowing the E. Africans (and Cubans, and many others) to dope aren't just going to walk away. It's going to take years and years to clean things up. And even if/when things get cleaned up there isn't any guarantee Europeans, Americans, Japanese etc. will take to the sport in greater numbers.
Away from the drug issue, Jakob isn't even really a miler per se. He's more of a 5k guy. However, it's fantastic what he's doing. And he's a legit teen, not a 23 yr old "teen" like Amos and Aman at the 2012 Olympic Games. BOTH of their agents said they were really 24 years old the following year. Hell, look at Amos, he looks like he's 30 now, just as he looked like he was 23 or so in London.
Kiprop. Man, he was a legit teen sensation. And look at what happened. He peaked at 1:45 and 3:33 or so and out came the needles, as they have for most of the other African champions of middle and long distance running. Shame. One hopes this never happens to Jakob.
Agreed.
BTW, has anyone else made the connection with Jim Ryun beating Peter Snell? Ryun was 18 when he famously beat the Olympic Champion. Jakob is 17 and has just beaten the reigning Olympic Champion. Presumably he is the youngest runner to perform that feat?
I agree that Jakob's best events are prob gonna be 5/10k but I do think he has the chance to be great in the 1500 as well. Great that he is working a lot on his speed so he can win both fast races and sit and kick. I wouldn't be surprised if Jakob knocked 3-4s off his pr this year , and he still has a few years of progression. Sub 3:30 is def not out of the question yet.
Also wonder if he will go for sub 13 this year, seems he is capable, but needs a good race.

Maybe you couldn’t tell, but those guys really don’t like to acknowledge the success of black people. Coevett is an absolute dog.
