        Would be tragic for genuine Kenyan track fans to have to accept that even with a population of 70 million devoted to distance running, they still can't come close to pasty white boys running clean 40 years ago.

        b) he was slower when doped than before

        Yup, just seeing that now, thanks. Kind of subdued but what else can we expect him to say at this point.

      • This news is too bad but I am glad to see that testing is starting. I would not come to sweeping conclusions about all East African runners. Maybe some groups are suspect but I hope and think many EA runners are clean. Standardized testing is needed for all elites. It should be a cost of doing business / entering competition.

        I imagine there are some groups in all countries that will try to cheat. Some countries may have more systematic doping. This is progress.

      • Food for thought: Kiprop was listed on IAAF's likely doping list, where follow-up tests were specifically requested. Pre-comp, not ooc. Tee hee.

        Several others on the list appeared to be much more suspicious, judging by the amount of follow-up tests requested (and stars given).

      • I would suggest they are all dirty. That's how it goes with agents like this. You are either on board with the program or you aren't and if you aren't willing to dope you ain't gonna make any money so you're useless to the Rosa's.

        I'm actually surprised they haven't been knocked off given how many lives they've F'd over.

        "Andrew Rotich got things started by pacing Asbel through 800 meters in 1:51, at which point Asbel took over and closed the final 400 meters in 56 seconds. He had run 1,200 meters in 2:47… at 7,300 feet … in training. Not one member of his training squad was even remotely close to him when he crossed the line.         7:00 rest
        4 x 400 (:50 rest): 54, 53, 54, 54
        7:00 rest
        4 x 200 (:50 rest): 23, 23, 23, 23"

      • Can't say I'm surprised. I always thought Kiprop was selectively doping. He's a fixture at Monaco which are basically all-out time trials where the effects of doping are most obvious. One year, he runs 3:26 and makes it look easy. Other years he struggles to run sub-3:30. It's the ease with which he ran his fastest times that I consider suspicious.
