UTEP soph Saruni wins by over 3 seconds at U of Az meet tonight. 1:43.25 - something in the water in UTEP?

It’s still April
Down goes Brazier's Collegiate Record. Totally forgot to include that in my rush to post and shock of the time.
Wasn't he the one that had "visa troubles" in getting to Birmingham?
Holy . . .
lol wtf
Just goes to show how much depth the 800 (and 400, 200, etc.) has compared to the 1500, 3000 steeplechase, etc., especially in the United States
Imagine if college guy came out of nowhere and ran 3:45 for mile (roughly equivalent to 1:43 for 800)

Saruni is Kenyan
Korir was the one with visa issues.
Split 51/52 while running from the front
Best 800 performance in the entire world over the past couple years
Wow that was windy. That is easily a 1:42 under better conditions.

Looked like he was second until 350 to go on my screen, though brilliant run regardless.

The longer event the longer it takes to develop aerobically for it. Also, the longer the event the older the peak age. Idiot.
He’s also Kenyan, not American.
You’re slow. wrote:

Honestly, what did you gain here by calling someone an "idiot"? What kind of hole in your character are you trying to fill?
Incredible run. Looked like he could have gone another 50m+ before really tying up.
Saruni was only 5-6m clear at 600, ~1.17 but he really blew everyone away over the final 200. Also don't overlook, behind him, was Villareal 1:46.7. Villareal would have won the mile and gone inside 4mins if he'd chosen that event.
Alsso at the meet.... Henderson 10.98 wind legal. FaSSSt! And HoTT! Did I say, faSSt?!
Two young Kenyans, Emmanuel Korir and Michael Saruni, running fast in the NCAA. Add world bronze medalist Kipyegon Bett and Commonwealth champ Wycliffe Kinyamal to a list of established 800m runners, including King Rudisha. I don't envy the Kenyan selectors at all. There'll be tears at trials in the next two years. Saruni's gonna make them grovel.

Great interview with Steve Cram - says Jakob has no chance of WRs this year
